The Institute for the Study of War quoted the head of the Estonian Defense Forces Intelligence Center Colonel Margo Grosberg who said on June 16 that "we won't see an offensive (operation by Ukraine) over the next seven days.”
The Wall Street Journal similarly reported on June 17 that Ukrainian forces “have mostly paused their advances in recent days” as Ukrainian command reexamines tactics.
These reports are consistent with ISW’s recent observations of the scale and approach of localized Ukrainian counterattacks in southern and eastern Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials such as Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar confirmed that counteroffensive operations are ongoing. Soldiers from the 81st and 57th Brigades have told the Kyiv Independent that Ukrainian forces are on the move, slowly advancing on the Russian forces in Donetsk Oblast.
ISW has previously noted that Ukraine has not yet committed the majority of its available forces to counteroffensive operations and has not yet launched its main effort. "Operational pauses are a common feature of major offensive undertakings, and this pause does not signify the end of Ukraine’s counteroffensive," the experts concluded.

There is no military solution for Ukraine...they should have negotiated from the start...hubris is what got them here...SAD.
Offensive operations against a dug in enemy with artillery and air superiority has NEVER been a good bet in the history of modern warfare.
This is especially true when that enemy has had months to prepare and they have degraded your artillery capability. Last year the Russians fought a war they were ill-prepared for and the Ukrainians performed heroically in a mobile defense. This year, the Ukraine has been forced to fight a war on terms that favor Russia and it shows.
The Ukrainians cannot win a war of attrition against Russia. It does not make me “pro-Putin” to say this, it is just a tragic fact for both the Ukrainians, Russians, and my kids and yours.
Corruption and hubris got us here.

Tragic, but you are 100% correct.
Nuland needs to be jailed for war crimes. Completely useless war and the dead have no recompense.
Maybe they have finally figured out they can’t move armor without an air defense umbrella.
I think they figured it out early. I think they had to go anyway to prove it to the Western Nations who grew weary of sending equipment that they didn’t use.
Now, it’s obvious they need an air power to remove the Russians. This is what nobody who is rational wanted to happen, because they will quickly get enough fighters to be a real threat to Russia.

So much hype and investment into this counteroffensive ukraine has to win or the West looks like fools
no long range missiles = suddenly yes
no depleted uranium shells= suddenly yes
No F-16s = suddenly yes
A few F-16s likely won’t make a huge difference
Glide bombs and helicopter gun ships causing headaches
The next mission creep may be NATO (likely Polish ) troops in far westren Ukraine to free up Ukrainian troops to move to the front lines

Up until recently Russia has only used a fraction of its total airforce in Ukraine and even today still aren’t flying a huge amount of sorties
Look for media reports in coming weeks about a “no fly zone” over Ukraine. These will just be “feelers” but I’m sure people like Linda Graham
