Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday gave African leaders seeking to mediate in the war in Ukraine a list of reasons why he believed many of their proposals were misguided, pouring cold water on a plan already largely dismissed by Kyiv.
The African leaders were seeking agreement on a series of “confidence building measures”, even as Kyiv last week began a counteroffensive to push back Russian forces from the swathes of southern and eastern Ukraine that they occupy.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said after meeting them in Kyiv on Friday that peace talks would require Moscow to withdraw its forces from occupied Ukrainian territory, something Russia has said is not negotiable.

He told the delegation that Ukrainian grain exports from Black Sea ports that Russia has permitted for the past year were doing nothing to alleviate Africa’s difficulties with high food prices because they had largely gone to wealthy countries.
He said Russia had never refused talks with the Ukrainian side, which had been blocked by Kyiv. Moscow has, however, repeatedly said any peace must allow for “new realities”, meaning its declared annexation of five Ukrainian provinces, four of which it only partially controls - a red line for Kyiv.

This meeting took place the day after Russia admitted they targeted Kiev when these African “leaders” were in town. The foolish Africans speak only for their countries and not for the whole of Africa.
The Neocons have to be BANGING THEIR HEADS into a wall, as they could have kept Ukraine intact (other than Crimea, obviously) and would have never needed to empty their arsenals and bank accounts, over Ukraine. All the Neocons had to do was accept that Russian speakers in Eastern Ukraine had the right to use their language, and that Ukraine wouldn’t be used to threaten Russia.
But that was too much for the Neocons (understandable when you have people with Ukrainian backgrounds running the show in DC), and so they’re now in the process of losing everything there and being stuck having to deal with a huge bunch of Nazis in Western Ukraine when this war ends (although, I know, they’re ‘Good Nazis’).
