Russian attack helicopters gain upper hand on key southern front, says UK MoD
The Telegraph via Yahoo ^ | June 17th, 2023 | Jessica Abrahams

Russia is using attack helicopters equipped with long-range missiles to gain an upper hand on the key southern front of the Ukrainian counter-offensive, according to Britain’s Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Moscow has deployed more than 20 extra helicopters to Berdyansk airport, which lies approximately 100km behind the front line, since Kyiv launched its offensive earlier this month, the ministry said in an intelligence update.

“In the constant contest between aviation measures and counter-measures, it is likely that Russia has gained a temporary advantage in southern Ukraine, especially with attack helicopters employing longer-range missiles against ground targets,” said the MoD.

It indicated earlier in the week that the Russian air force had been “unusually active over southern Ukraine”, which is at the centre of a counter-offensive as Ukraine hopes to sever Russia’s land corridor between annexed Crimea and eastern Donetsk.

The daily sortie rate remains much lower than at the start of the invasion, when Russia was flying up to 300 missions a day, the MoD said. But Russia has increased its use of air-to-surface weapons that allow attack aircraft to remain well away from their targets.

In particular, reports suggest that Russian attack helicopters are operating close to the front lines in the south and could pose a serious threat to the Ukrainian counter-offensive.

One Ukrainian commander who spoke to The Guardian near the front line in Zaporizhzhia described “constant attacks from helicopters, three or four times a day”, saying his brigade had no effective way to shoot them down from the ground.

“they are very formidable gunships”
Yes but they only had 90 of them, and a third have been destroyed.
We have over 1200 Apache gunships, just as a comparison.
So Russia is burning up it’s buffer.
For what?
Putin’s pride or a black sea naval base?
The world is playing Russia into military bankruptcy.
Russia knows if it uses their nukes it will cease to exist.
USA will do just fine without DC, NYC, Los Angeles, et al
But I don’t think Russia can survive without Moscow.
Just like China can’t survive without Peking.
Sorry about the old spellings.
We aren’t centralized, as much as they are.

For what it's worth.

Delegation, Russian President Vladimir Putin showed the African leaders a copy of the agreed-upon draft agreement between Russia and Ukraine in March 2022.

The agreement puts regulations on Ukrainian Armed Forces and says that Ukraine must adopt a Permanent Diplomatic Neutrality

Putin told the African Delegation that Russia withdrew troops from Kyiv/Kiev and Chernihiv in accordance with the treaty. However, after that happened Ukraine "on the orders of Washington, threw this treaty into the dustbin of history."

At that time it was openly reported that the person responsible for the fall of the agreements was the then Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson who convinced the Ukrainian President Zelensky not to accept the agreements and continue the fight.

And a little more:

With Basis on the April 2022 draft agreement (which was almost agreed back then):

— Russia would return to the positions in Donbass & Crimea

— Ukraine would declare Neutrality

— Ukraine would give up on NATO aspirations in exchange of Security Guarantees from a number of Countries

— The countries being: United Kingdom, China, United States, Turkey, France and Belarus

— Ukraine would agree on demilitarize itself and reduce its armed forces size

The majority of people who live in provinces that are being fought over do not wish to remain part of Ukraine. An armed conflict between these provinces and Kiev have been ongoing for years. Reconciliation between the sides isn’t possible. Kiev should just let them go and end this catastrophe before it gets any worse. Forcing the provinces to stay at this point will only prolong the suffering of our brothers.

“Russia knows if it uses their nukes it will cease to exist.”

Russia could nuke Kiev and nobody in the world would do jack shit militarily.

But, hey, try to make your case.

Say you had a neighbor that was physically a threat to you and yours.
What would you do?
Suppose they start shooting out your windows.
There are no cops to call.
What would you do?
Suppose they planted some homeless people om your property
and denied you the use of that property?
No cops to call.
What would you do?
Nothing?
That is an option.
but it is one I would not take.

Not big talk.
Reality.
Y’all been in a fight where you thought you might die?
I doubt it.
you sound like a pussy that called for help.
well in the real world there is no help other than what you can come up with.

All of that very, very weak analogy is a complete non sequitur.

And shows it to be an emotional issue for you, and not assailable by reason.

So I’ll say this again: Russia could nuke Kiev and there’s not jack shit anyone will do about it militarily.

Including you.

Obviously you would not.
But you are somewhat short
sighted and forget your history
or understanding of human nature.

Put it another way “give a mouse a cookie”
What is the result?

The Ukrainians are being held up by Russian minefields. They don't seem to have enough mine clearing vehicles. It's a serious problem that is decimating Ukrainian armor and personal. If the Ukrainians can't get through the Russian front lines they will suffer heavy casualties if they make it to the first Russian fortified line. If they can't break through the fortified line they will have to retreat through mine fields the Russians put behind them. It could get real ugly for the attackers.

They'll have to wait and ask for more equipment from the West. No idea how many mine clearing vehicles we have. We might need to manufacture them. But we'll need to get our $#it together if we want to keep up with the armaments for Ukraine.

Our FR female resident Ukraine Propaganda Minister will not like this news.
Eventually Ukraine will run out of warm male bodies to throw at Russia.
What will Zelensky do then?

He’s waiting for NATO (which means us and maybe a Brit brigade) to save the day.
