History is written by the victors, and the bottom line is the Soviet Union was a victor in WWII, and our ally.
So you’ll never be able to equate the two, in most peoples minds, and perception is reality. A lot of people still believe Communism is a “good idea on paper”, but just the wrong people were in charge.
Only the most die-hard Nazi would say that National Socialism was a “good idea on paper”.

and yet Communism has given the world far more death and misery than National Socialism ever hoped to.
By equating the Third Reich with the USSR I’m actually being unjust to the Third Reich.
