At the Heart of the Documents Case: Trump’s Attachment to His Boxes
NY Slimes ^

Posted on 06/16/2023 11:05:10 AM PDT by GulliverSwift

During President Donald J. Trump’s years in the White House, his aides began to refer to the boxes full of papers and odds and ends he carted around with him almost everywhere as the “beautiful mind” material.

It was a reference to the title of a book and movie depicting the life of John F. Nash Jr., the mathematician with schizophrenia played in the film by Russell Crowe, who covered his office with newspaper clippings, believing they held a Russian code he needed to crack.

The phrase had a specific connotation. The aides employed it to capture a type of organized chaos that Mr. Trump insisted on, the collection and transportation of a blizzard of newspapers and official documents that he kept close and that seemed to give him a sense of security.

One former White House official, who was granted anonymity to describe the situation, said that while the materials were disorganized, Mr. Trump would notice if somebody had riffled through them or they were not arranged in a particular way. It was, the person said, how “his mind worked.”

... His intense desire to keep the materials comes through in a text message cited in the indictment about the possibility of the boxes being moved after they were shipped to Mar-a-Lago, his Florida residence and private club.

When one employee asked the other if some could be moved to storage, the second employee, identified by multiple people as Mr. Trump’s former assistant Molly Michael, replied, “Woah!! Ok so potus specifically asked Walt for those boxes to be in the business center because they are his ‘papers.’”

At another point, she used the phrase “the beautiful mind paper boxes” in a text message, the indictment says.

I am so sick of news stories reporting how President Trump's staffers ridicule and mock him behind his back. It seems like they all talk about him as if he's a mentally ill toddler. But when in public, they never say these things until they are seeking a book deal.

Is this a deep state thing? I don't think they can possibly have control over every person that he hires. I just am so sick of the disrespect his staff shows him as anonymous sources.

I would like to think that the leftist media sources are making this stuff up but this Maggie Haberman person has had several stories which were proven true, such as her reports that Trump was privately negotiating and battling with the DOJ on the boxes. People claimed he was cooperating fully which was not true.

Prior to the unlawful raid on Mar-a-Lago, Trump was fully cooperating, so I thought.

All of the documents in question fit in one box. But the photos and such shows tons of boxes that we’re supposed to believe were each completely full of nuclear secrets and such.

I can understand. While having 5000-10000 pages of “unorganized” material around is not my ideal, I can generally find what I need to and I don’t have the time or patience to either “organize” it or keep it organized.

“Prior to the unlawful raid on Mar-a-Lago, Trump was fully cooperating, so I thought.”

According to the indictment, Walter Nauta was asked by Trump to hide boxes from his attorneys and there is video of Nauta doing it. So that is not fully cooperating.

Seems like from what I can tell that some grifter named Tom Fitton was telling Trump that he did not have to cooperate. I don’t understand why Trump would ask Fitton for advice when Fitton is not an attorney and has no direct experience with national security law.

It’s like Trump’s closest aides are trying to set him up or something.

Everyone has their own way of organizing things I guess. But the direct quotes from Trump staff members comparing him to a mental patient are very concerning. These are the people in his inner circle.

Seems like the classified docs were split across many different boxes. Doesn’t really matter to me how they were distributed. I don’t care about the number of boxes.

I do care that Trump seems to still be surrounding himself with vipers who despise him.

My wife would question the mental state of someone who did such things Of course a large chunk of the papers are for disclosure and her lawyer is the one who thinks that a divorce is done for the sake of sending two trees to a paper mill.

Divorce causes deforestation

This tells you everything you need to know about the "classified document" hoax:

Then what does it say about all those documents Obama took? I think it was 10 X what Trump had, and Obama still had them in 2018.

“a blizzard of newspapers and official documents that he kept close”

So, this article states that POTUS had made clear to all, on more than one occasion, and repeatedly to everyone, that the stuff in the boxes were considered by POTUS to be his.

That should end the entire case.

“national security law”

Doesn’t apply to POTUS’ personal documents-
and that’s ANYTHING he says is personal.

don’t obfuscate the issues

“Then what does it say about all those documents Obama took? I think it was 10 X what Trump had, and Obama still had them in 2018.”

Looks like the warehouse that Obama’s records were in was owned and run by NARA. Obama did not have any of his records.

https://www.archives.gov/press/press-releases/2022/nr22-001#august-12-2022

“The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) assumed exclusive legal and physical custody of Obama Presidential records when President Barack Obama left office in 2017, in accordance with the Presidential Records Act (PRA). NARA moved approximately 30 million pages of unclassified records to a NARA facility in the Chicago area where they are maintained exclusively by NARA. Additionally, NARA maintains the classified Obama Presidential records in a NARA facility in the Washington, DC, area. As required by the PRA, former President Obama has no control over where and how NARA stores the Presidential records of his Administration.”

And that wasn’t offered to Trump.

NARA announced on the day Trump left office that it was holding his records:

https://www.archives.gov/press/press-releases/2021/press-donald-j-trump-presidential-library

I don’t recall the president ever saying NARA didn’t store his records. Under PRA, NARA is supposed to hold all the records made by or for a president and vice president. He can get unlimited access to them but NARA is the owner.

Looks like that meme is wrong. NARA announced that it was storing Trump’s records on 1/20/2021

If NARA was holding his records why didn’t they rent a facility near his home like they did with Obama, Bush, Clinton, etc?

He invited the National Archives to come in, and go through the boxes. They did, in Feb. 2022, and left with 15 boxes, including the letter Obama left for Trump, and a letter from Kim-Jung-Un.

They violated their own Archive rules, and let Sandy Berger view original classified documents on two separate occasions on his own, without being observed, which he then walked away with both times, and destroyed. Those original classified documents, consisting of a report on the 2000 millennium attack plots, from the Clinton Administration had yet to be inventoried when they disappeared. Clinton left the White House in January 2001, yet the originals of that report had yet to be inventoried by September and October 2003 when Berger stole them. And we're to believe that they knew Trump had certain documents? Bullshit!

The Archives had no idea that Obama's Presidential papers were sitting in an abandoned furniture store and warehouse, didn't know Biden had thousands of documents sitting in various places since he left the V.P.'s office in 2017, didn't know Pence had classified documents, but they knew exactly what they were missing from Trump? I'm betting they don't have all of Obama's papers to this day, nor have they been inventoried, but they are being anal about Trump? I call it fabricated concern in order to get rid of Trump.

It all boils down to this. Nobody in the government gave a hoot what Obama, Biden or Pence had in their possession. It only mattered that they get their hands on Donald Trump's papers, because they are so afraid that he might have something that incriminates them. That's the gist of the whole thing we're seeing now.
