Zelensky: Ukrainian loss could force US to choose between ‘collapse of NATO’ or war
The Hill via Yahoo ^ | June 15th, 2023 | Julia Shapero

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday that a loss to Russia could ultimately force the U.S. to choose between the “collapse of NATO” or going to war.

“If Ukraine would lose, if Russia would occupy Ukraine, Russia will continue going towards Baltic countries, Poland, etcetera,” Zelensky said in an interview with NBC News. “And they will start war with one of the NATO countries, and at this moment, the U.S. would have to choose the collapse of NATO or go to war.”

The Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are all members of NATO, as is Poland. An attack on any member of the alliance is “considered an attack against them all” under the treaty organization’s principle of collective defense.

Zelensky brought up the possibility of NATO involvement in response to the suggestion from some Republican politicians that the U.S. needs to limit its spending on the war in Ukraine.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis — a 2024 Republican presidential candidate — previously described the war as a “territorial dispute,” while arguing that the U.S. should not become “further entangled” in the conflict. Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) also warned last fall that a Republican majority in the House would not write a “blank check” to Ukraine for aid.

“Is any candidate or senator who thinks it costs too much for the United States to support Ukraine, is he ready to go to war, to fight, to send his kids,” Zelensky said Thursday, adding, “Because anyway, they will have to do this if NATO gets involved.”

“It’s not Ukraine against Russia,” he said. “Russia is fighting against the civilized world.”

You clearly don’t know the history, but I don’t care. I want nothing to do with it. I don’t want my money going there, I don’t want my equipment there or my people there. Not my circus.

You don’t care that Soros, wef, Biden, all the bad players support Ukraine? That doesn’t bother you? Ever ask yourself why they to keep going? I’ll give you a hint. They didn’t grow a conscience and are doing it out of goodwill.

The history is that Putin and Russia attacked Ukraine and everything else is crap. Nobody outside of Russian troll and crazies who want to believe it actually believe what you are saying. It is you who are an ignorant idiot. Look at all of the Eastern block countries and Scandinavian countries joining NATO. Do you honestly not think they know who the enemy is. Putin has publicly talked about restoring “greater Russia”.

” and they shucked off that burden over 30 years ago and went back to being friendly. But DC and morons refused to shift gears…. so simpletons and grifter out to make money declare them our “historic enemy”.”

Having just taught a class on the Russian Civil War and taken a class on the history of Eastern Europe i have reconsidered my thoughts on US foreign policy since 1945.
I was in the Fulda Gap in the mid 70s.
Anyway I woner what would have happen if the neocons who “won the cold war” had looked at a Marshall plan to help Russia instead of spiking the football and doing an end zone dance. But then I assume government policy makers cannot look farther ahead than the next election.

That is what Reagan advocated.

“”“... the Monroe Doctrine and the Mexican War created conditions of peace and safety for almost two centuries...”

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I agree with you.
The Monroe Doctrine was based on isolationism of America and military non-interventionism outside its borders.
That policy gave some Americans a false sense of security. In reality that policy was a boon for our enemies dreaming about expansion and world-domination. Every time America is not being proactive or being stagnant our enemies seize on that and go forward - weakening America in the process.
It’s pure maths.

The Monroe Doctrine is a defeatist ideology (nearly WOKE ideology) which is only teasing our enemies to be more aggressive against us.

The Monroe Doctrine produces on the international scene a level of chaos that “defund the police” does locally in America.
Looks what’s happening in California : Young criminals just enter shops, steal what they want, while the Monroe-inspired society just watches and do nothing! Non-intervention!

The Monroe Doctrine is when violent burglars attack a family’s house, the victims trying to call the police, but no one comes because they are “defunded”. No means to intervene!

The Monroe Doctrine is the breeding ground for decadence. Letting crooks and enemies do whatever they want, while the good guys do nothing.

I’m confused. You opposed us helping Ukraine (Biden’s current plan), and you opposed us doing nothing (Biden’s original plan). Does this mean you were for us helping Russia?

“It’s just that our guys are really that good. It would be like clubbing baby seals if we use our front line assets.”

No doubt a combo of F-35s and F-22s would virtually eliminate Russian air defense. And that would allow the heavy freight carriers free roam of the Russian skies.

And every piece of armor would be at risk.

However, only stupid people believe Russia would not use nukes early and often, to include their strategic assets.

“Imagine if the Czechs had decided back in 1938, the hell with you Chamberlain, we’re not going to surrender to Hitler. We’re going to fight.”

They would all be dead.

Once Hitler got the Sudentenland, the Czechs basically had no defense. That’s why they didn’t fight when Hitler eventually moved to take over the rest of the country.

“They would all be dead.”

Spoken like a Nazi, or a Communist, or a follower of Putin. Be a slave or be dead.

Rule by fear.

This is why our National Anthem ends, “The Land of the Free. And the Home of the Brave.”

Russia is still aggressive and expansionist. It is still very dangerous. the more things change the more Russia stays the same(backwards). It is true that back in the days most major countries wanted to expand their borders and were frankly imperialist if that’s what you are getting at. The problem with your point is that virtually everyone has moved away from taking over other countries to expand their borders except Russia. They still cling to this and other outmoded concept and as such are dangerous and they are a threat to the rest of us.

We thought that with the fall of Communism Russia would not go back to their old ways. But they are still the same evil empire that they were in Ronald Reagan’s day. Most of us do not want to go back to that.

The Czechs would of all been dead. But, the Ukes are winning (they are bigger and better prepared then the Czechs were)so that analogy is not valid. What is valid is that if Hitler had been stopped early a lot of lives would of been saved. The time to stop Putin is now. So we do not have to go back to the old world ways of having to deal with a dangerous and evil Russia.

And NONE of that has anything to do with the world situation in 2023.

Russia has not threatened a strategic or essential US interest.

Why must the US stop them?

Turn on the evening news. Between rampant crime, crooked politicians, the mentality of transgenderism, open borders, etc, I would not call us civilized.
