In April, Russian fighter jets attempted to lure U.S. military aircraft into a dogfight over Syria, CNN reported.
During the month of March, Russian jets flew near daily over a U.S. military base in the Middle Eastern country, Lt. Gen. Alexus Grynkewich of U.S. Central Command told NBC News.
Shall we play a game?
I thought this eggshell was retired
Where in the Middle East, I wonder? Turkey? Jordan? Kuwait?
Obama just giving a few more gifts to help the Middle East War Effort.Tick Tock, spread the wealth around.
Gotta keep the military industrial guys rolling in the big bucks. Lose one, they'll build two more.
I’d love to see a pair of Raptors smoke an entire Wing of Rooskie Sukhois .
That would rate a fine cigar
They now want to deplete us of our best fighter jet. That we don’t produce anymore.
“to counter an increase in “unsafe and unprofessional behavior” by Russia in the region,” Pussies…. Awwww did the fighter plane scare you?
Bottom line, they have a legal UN recognized right to fly anywhere in Syria. We unilaterally decided they had to avoid certain zones.
So now we are sending better fighters to do …. what exactly? Shoot down Russian planes flying over store with Syrian permission? Exactly nobody except Jordan maybe wants us in Syria anymore.
Trump tried to get us out Syria. He even ordered it. DOD just gave him the finger. And here we are.
An uninvited, undefined vague mission in an active theatre of war
And sending our most expensive equipment there, too
—- more attractive targets than $500,000,000.00 - plus planes couldn’t be injected into that war
(Maybe aircraft carriers but they’re a lot harder to sink)
This has all the hallmarks if another Gulf of Tonkin provocation
I think you mean million dollar russian planes shooting down billion dollar american planes made from overly complex systems all built by the lowest builder
“This has all the hallmarks if another Gulf of Tonkin provocation”
Oh, so Russia is Syria now? Another notch in Putin’s belt?
And I don’t recall the US and the North Vietnam having an agreement on deconfliction and de-escalation -which the US and Russia have had in Syria since 2019.
Russia has been doing stuff like this for many decades. Agreeing to international treaties when they cannot project forces or maintain control of areas. Then renegging on their agreements by violating agreements and even outright assaults by proxies such as PMC Wagner.
Here’s a BBC article from an event in Syria in 2020. Russia has a long history of breaking agreements. The F-22s are warranted since the Russians are belligerents and are not doing S-1 in eastern Syria to counter ISIS activity or protect the Kurds. They just don’t want the US in eastern Syria now because they and Assad fancy themselves able to hold eastern Syria -which they cannot. But they don’t care cuz ISIS uses it to destabilize Iraq and Jordan -which Syria and Russia don’t care about either as Iran is their ally.

So some F-22s will be in overwatch when Russian jets harrass US forces and supply flights in eastern Syria -because Russia is escalating. Deterrence.
Wanna know why I don’t care about debt, how much I owe, the government being 32 trillion in the hole?
We’re gonna have WWIII soon, so what, me worry?
Syria
Why F-22s?
Our gazzilion dollar wunder waffen F-35s are hanger queens and can’t fly.
But they accomplished their mission of laundering the gazzilions into defense contractor bank accounts.

Better F-22s than the F-35.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TAMPA, Fla. - U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptors deployed to U.S. Central Command's area of responsibility as part of a multifaceted show of U.S. support and capability in the wake of increasingly unsafe and unprofessional behavior by Russian aircraft in the region.
The Raptors, from Langley Air Force Base, Va.'s 94th Fighter Squadron, are demonstrating the U.S.' ability to re-posture forces and deliver overwhelming power at a moment's notice.
The F-22's combination of stealth, aerodynamic performance, and mission systems make it the best fifth-generation fighter in the world.
While in the CENTCOM area, the 94th Fighter Squadron will integrate with coalition forces on the ground and in the air.
"Russian Forces' unsafe and unprofessional behavior is not what we expect from a professional air force. Their regular violation of agreed upon airspace deconfliction measures increases the risk of escalation or miscalculation," said Gen. Michael "Erik" Kurilla, commander of U.S. Central Command. "Alongside our partners and allies, we are committed to improving the security and stability in the region."
This rapid deployment and integration into coalition operations is a clear demonstration of the commitment shared by partners, allies, and the U.S. to long-term peace and stability in the region.
Lt. Gen. Alexus Grynkewich told NBC News that Russian jets have violated the airspace of At Tanf Garrison roughly 25 times this month, including Wednesday.
