I am no fan of Putin, but in her case I think fleeing to Russia was a smart move.
Anything is possible but the story is completely nuts. Nothing in it sounds like her arrest was “imminent” and she thought she was going to be charged with espionage?

I have seen this first hand myself. You cannot imagine it. They will listen in your house, and drive cars by revving engine when you or family members talk about it.
It took me years to realize the government works nothing like you think. They have literally rebuilt the East German Stasi in the US, complete with Zersetzung operations for those who oppose the machine.
