KYIV (Reuters) -Ukraine said on Monday its troops had recaptured seven villages from Russian forces along an approximately 100-km (60-mile) front in the southeast since launching its long-anticipated counteroffensive last week.
The task of ending Moscow's occupation of southern and eastern Ukraine is daunting, given Russia's numerical superiority in men, ammunition and air power, and the many months it has had to build deep defensive fortifications.
On Monday, soldiers were seen in video holding the Ukrainian flag in the village of Storozheve, along the Mokri Yaly river which flows northward out of Russian-held territory. Reuters confirmed the location.
A day earlier Kyiv said its forces heading south had liberated three other nearby villages along the Mokri Yaly: Blahodatne, Neskuchne and Makarivka.
Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar said in a Telegram post late on Monday that Ukrainian forces had also recaptured Levadne and Novodarivka, around 10 km (6 miles) west of the Mokri Yaly, as well as Lobkove, southeast of the city of Zaporizhzhia.
Maliar said troops had advanced a total of 6.5 km. "The area of the territory taken under control was 90 square kilometres (35 square miles)," she said. Maliar added that the seven settlements were taken over the past week, without giving details of precisely when.

“...There is no talk of a Russian offensive....”
From what I have been able to discern, Russia at this moment is in a defensive mode having fortified several lines of defense. They are primarily relying on artillery, missiles, drones and their air force. Where their first line of defense has fallen to the Ukrainians, they have counter-attacked and reversed the UK gains in a couple of cases, not in others. It will be interesting if Russia does go on the offense. What territory would they take?
Why not bring out old tanks? If the positions they’re attacking don’t have any anti tank, why not put a T34 on them? Let the newer tanks with thermals and badass optics do the real work, while the old tanks clean up the rabble. Even an A7V would stomp the hell out of a rabble only armed with rifles.
If you got it, use it.
Th reason they are bringing out old museum pieces is because their “modern” tanks are being blown away. Just look at Speedy in Texas documentation of who is losing equipment.
I used to take umbrage, but it gave me morning sickness.

Ukraine was able to make advances under the cover of fog, rain and bad weather. This prevented the use of drones, precision artillery and air power.
We'll see what happens to the Ukes after the weather changes.
The sooner they get deleted from the battlefield, the sooner we can stop wasting laundered money over there.
Russia has the production to replace losses. Ukraine has to hit the streets and beg like bums

Even if that’s true, 20 a month is more than Ukraine gets
I documented my post can you document your statement? There are several articles pointing out the one tank factory story. With the help Ukraine is getting from the rest of the world I doubt your last comment.
I would think they must be stretched thin for tanks at this point. I don’t know how many of these old tanks that the Russians made a point of saving are in restorable for combat condition. I imagine they are scrambling to find that out as well, cannibalizing many for parts as they do.
