The grand jury in the Bernie Goetz case refused to indict him for attempted murder, assault, and reckless endangerment. They knocked down his charge of criminal possession of a weapon to one count in the third degree and two counts of possession in the fourth degree for two other "unlicensed" handguns in his home.

Goetz was indicted on all these counts. He went to trial and was cleared of everything except the gun possession charges.
