It may need to “grow back”.
The Crusades were organized to push Moslem invaders out of the Mediterranean lands, Greece, Turkey, Sicily, Crete, Judea, North Africa, etc.
These were Christian regions.
Christians in areas occupied by Moslems were brutalized, enslaved, murdered, etc.
