Your former roommate may not have told you, but if he was still a minor, parental consent was needed. Why would any parent “offer their child up” to a government agency for experiments?
What do they gain from it, since tbey probably couldn’t even brag about it to the grandparents during Thanksgiving Dinner?

I will answer my own question with this: maybe one of his parents was experimented upon some decades earlier.
The family and the DNA had already been vetted.

He would have been of age when he was doing it, he was about 10 years older than me.

Kaczynski would have participated in the MK-Ultra experiments in ‘59-’62. DNA sequencing was first done in the mid ‘70s.
