When power of government is concentrated in the center, this is an unavoidable result.
There was a time in America when the power of the central government and its ostensible public head (the President) did not matter much in the lives of average Americans. That is when America thrived and people lived free.
We steadily centralized power and money in one place, Washington DC. We became an empire.
