Shocking footage has captured the moment a handcuffed man who was in police custody in London, fatally shot an officer while in a cell.
Louis De Zoysa, 25, pulled out an antique revolver from a concealed underarm holster and fired from point-blank range, with a bullet striking Police Sergeant Matt Ratana.
The accused had his hands secured behind his back, but he managed to fire four rounds, The Sun reports.
Edited CCTV released on Wednesday night London time, captured the shooting which killed the 54-year-old cop.
A full-length version was played to jurors at De Zoysa’s trial, attended on Wednesday by Sargent Ratana’s partner Su Bushby.
It showed De Zoysa swivelling to his right, lifting the back of his jacket and pulling out the gun with his right hand in one swift movement before firing into Sargent Ratana’s chest.
Two other cops in the cell at the custody centre in Croydon, South London, are then seen diving on the gunman.

“WTH? They don’t search suspects before putting them in cells? Completely avoidable and tragic.”
I remember seeing a video clip where the [American] cops brought a guy into an interview room. Single cop got up and left. Suspect reached into his pants and came up with what looked like a full-frame 1911 and shot himself.
Woah
I want the Honda 750 Four
Although the event was tragic, I had pretty much the same reaction. I thought he looked like an Algerian version of Prince before I saw your comment.
“Did you search the suspect, officer?”
“No, Chief Inspector. I thought you did.”
“I did not. Now get in that cell and search him.”
“Yes, sir!”
Bang.
Not possible, UK and London have Common Sense gun control, the Alleged accused is not a Gun Crazy American and UK residents are all completly sane, normal and don't need or have Guns.
A thorough search takes time and is way more that a “pat-down”. Done correctly it is invasive and uncomfortable AND the searcher should be wearing disposable gloves. A metal detecting wand ought/could to be used if it has been tested and demonstrated to detect a single razor blade.Criminals have hidden blades and guns of various sizes in surprising places.
True
He's either got dexterous teeth or dexterous toes.

It's even worse procedure to not thoroughly search somebody you are locking up.
It obviously happens, I’ve been there.

How did an inmate get a loaded gun into Cook County Jail?
A crime suspect managed to smuggle a loaded handgun into Cook County Jail after Chicago police officers and then jail officers missed the weapon in at least two separate searches

Exactly what I said in #10. I’m like one of the tube-based TV sets. I scan every other line, and then come back to read the interleave. ;-D
Go for the short searches then. Throw ‘em into the tree shredder and listen for a metallic clank.
They sure as hell wouldn’t publicize it, that is for sure.
Last weekend my wife and I went to a festival in town. I would normally carry on my hip at 4 o'Clock with a pair of shorts and a long sleeved shirt worn outside the pants, but it was simply too hot for that and I wanted to wear a t-shirt which likely would have printed.
I have a pair of heavy duty rip-stop shorts with deep pockets, so I slid my PPK into my right pocket nestled behind my wallet...first time I ever carried a pocket pistol in my pocket. I asked my wife to pat me down and she couldn't find it. on a casual pat down you could feel the wallet in my pocket but it felt like it was just a wallet and the weapon's presence was not at all obvious.
Don’t the British cops get taught to frisk search folks they arrest. The guy was a sergeañt he should of known better.
