Here’s How Trump’s Primary Opponents Responded to Trump’s Indictment
PJ Media ^ | 06/09/2023 | Matt Margolis

On Thursday evening, Donald Trump revealed that he has been indicted over the alleged mishandling of classified documents.

“The corrupt Biden Administration has informed my attorneys that I have been Indicted, seemingly over the Boxes Hoax, even though Joe Biden has 1850 Boxes at the University of Delaware, additional Boxes in Chinatown, D.C., with even more Boxes at the University of Pennsylvania, and documents strewn all over his garage floor where he parks his Corvette, and which is ‘secured’ by only a garage door that is paper thin, and open much of the time,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

Reports have since confirmed that a federal grand jury in Florida has charged him with seven counts. Although the specific charges have not been revealed, they are said to include allegations of willful retention of national defense information, conspiracy to obstruct justice, and false statements.

Here’s how Trump’s primary opponents reacted to the clearly partisan indictment.

Ron DeSantis

“The weaponization of federal law enforcement represents a mortal threat to a free society,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said on Twitter. “We have for years witnessed an uneven application of the law depending upon political affiliation.”

“Why so zealous in pursuing Trump yet so passive about Hillary or Hunter?” he continued. “The DeSantis administration will bring accountability to the DOJ, excise political bias and end weaponization once and for all.”

Vivek Ramaswamy

“We can’t have two tiers of justice: one for Trump, another for Biden. One for Assange, another for Manning. One for BLM/Antifa, another for peaceful protesters on Jan 6,” Ramaswamy tweeted. “I never thought we’d see the day when the U.S. President deputizes the DOJ to arrest his lead rival in the middle of an election.

Vivek is growing on me-—Then again, if America doesn’t have a great awakening and change of heart, then it really doesn’t matter who’s President. Unless the people change, this country is doomed.

FROM SENATOR TIM SCOTT:

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4041828-what-2024-gop-candidates-are-saying-about-trumps-indictment/

“What we’ve seen over the last several years is the weaponization of the Department [of] Justice against a former president,” Scott said. “You don’t have to be a Republican to see injustice and want to fix it. You don’t have to be a Democrat to see injustice and want to fix it. You just have to be an American and stand up for the right thing.”

FROM ASA HUTCHINSON:

https://twitter.com/AsaHutchinson/status/1666976882661949440

“With the news that Donald Trump has been indicted for the second time, our country finds itself in a position that weakens our democracy. Donald Trump’s actions-from his willful disregard for the Constitution to his disrespect for the rule of law-should not define our nation or the Republican Party,”

“This is a sad day for our country. While Donald Trump is entitled to the presumption of innocence, the ongoing criminal proceedings will be a major distraction. This reaffirms the need for Donald Trump to respect the office and end his campaign.”

FROM FORMER VP MIKE PENCE:

“I don’t know the facts of the president’s case. I don’t know the facts of the former president’s case. And — but what we have got to have in this country is equal treatment under the law,”

“I mean, when I informed the Department of Justice that we had classified materials potentially in our home — they were at my home — the FBI was on my front doorstep the next day. And what we found out was that when Joe Biden apparently alerted the Department of Justice, 80 days later, they showed up at his office. That’s not equal treatment under the law,” Pence continued. “And we have got to end this two-tiered system of justice.”

FROM TALK SHOW HOST LARRY ELDER

https://twitter.com/larryelder/status/1667126469590683649

“More partisan prosecution! Hillary violates the Espionage Act—yet skates,”

“FBI/DOJ whistleblowers tell of 2-tiered justice. FBI informant doc claims Joe & Hunter got $10mil in bribes. O.J. Simpson will catch the killer or killers of Ron and Nicole before the Hunter probe is over.”

FROM NIKKI HALEY

Complete silence so far.

FROM CHRIS CHRISTIE

https://twitter.com/GovChristie/status/1666984951416496129

“We don’t get our news from Trump’s Truth Social account. Let’s see what the facts are when any possible indictment is released. As I have said before, no one is above the law, no matter how much they wish they were. We will have more to say when the facts are revealed.”

MORE OF WHAT VIVEK RAMASWAMY SAID:

https://twitter.com/VivekGRamaswamy/status/1666960512578453505

Obama shamefully tried to deputize the FBI to infiltrate Trump’s 2016 campaign, but they’re leaving nothing to chance this time around: the federal police state is outright arresting Trump. This is an affront to every citizen: we cannot devolve into a banana republic where the party in power uses police force to arrest its political opponents.”

“It’s hypocritical for the DOJ to selectively prosecute Trump but not Biden.”

Christie doesn’t get his news from Trump’s truth social account, he will wait for Morning Joe before he knows what to think. What a clown. I’d gladly keep Bidem before this fool

And behind closed doors, all of them a little down because Trump is the Swamp’s public enemy number one, yet not ready to say ‘no mas’...

Maybe some of them know Trump would get more votes than them even if he was sentenced to prison by the Swamp..

Tough spot to be in..

“The DeSantis administration will bring accountability to the DOJ, excise political bias and end weaponization once and for all.”

There is nothing wrong with what Governor DeSantis said about known and reported facts.

If you like former President Trump better - nothing wrong with that.

If DeSantis wants to run for an office that does not have a Republican incumbent - there is nothing wrong with that either.

Disagree. If retribution isn’t a part of the platform, go away. It always seems to be Repukes who say, enough, let’s stop this thus making the Rats NEVER have to experience the weight of the government. Right now, Repukes don’t want to weaponize the impeachment process because “we’re better than that”. If the Rats get back in that position they’ll do it again. DeSantis is not the man for this job as his statement makes clear.

I liked that Scott didn’t pander to Trump voters and is staying above the fray while calling out the two tiered justice system. Bill Clinton’s willful perjury was treated differently. Republicans showed this in their impeachment case. They were attacked for defending a female intern sexually exploited by Bill Clinton and the fighting for rule of law from the lawyer, law professor, most powerful man at the time and chief law enforcement officer of the United States.

Here’s some dust up over documents which only matters if Trump was selling or leveraging still classified information for his own profit. That claimed doesn’t appear to be part of the indictments based on media leaks. If it’s just a p*ssing match over who is holding documents during negotiations over who has the right to possession it’s just a distraction and election interference.

The DS T&Bs (Deep State Trolls & Bots) will disagree.

I am getting a good feeling about this.

how desperate must the left be collectively, to be this afraid of one man, to actually pull all the stops, and blatantly, in front of the universe, attempt to discredit him and prevent him from being the nominee.

They must have cheated in such enormous numbers to put the potato in office, that they KNOW they cannot pull that shit once more, and are 100 per cent convinced that should he get on the ballot, he takes it away running.

Just goes to show who is part of the deep state. Trump was in contact with the FBI and National Archives for months and Trump was indicted. Trump had the power to declassify documents. Pence and Biden did not. Pence and Biden both belong in prison.

The democrat party has managed to get the toe tag on democracy and the judicial system in in one act.

Communism is the new rule obey or your next comrades now salute the new flag of red.

Mao/Stalin/Hitler/Lenin/Marx work has been completed.

Yep, it seems that nowadays on Free Republic, we are supposed to be on Team Trump or Team DeSantis, and publicly declare that we would never vote for the other one.

And some Freepers say they would vote for a Democrat, rather than another Republican, if their favorite Republican isn’t the GOP nominee.

Lots of strong opinions on Free Republic.
