China to place secret base in Cuba to spy on US: report
Just the News ^ | June 8, 2023 | Madeleine Hubbard

China reportedly reached an agreement with Cuba to allow them to create an electronic eavesdropping facility on the Caribbean island, which is located about 100 miles south of Florida, as tensions between Beijing and Washington have been rising dramatically over the past several months.

The Cuban facility would allow Chinese intelligence officials to monitor U.S. ship traffic and to listen to electronic communications throughout the southeastern United States, according to U.S. officials with knowledge of highly classified intelligence, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

China reached an agreement in principle to pay several billion dollars to the impoverished Marxist-Leninist nation of Cuba, officials familiar with the matter also said.

What has he not done in China’s favor?

C’mon man, at least the base isn’t in the U.S. (said in my best Biden impersonation)

IMO . . . it's already done and the balloon was to check on it's successful operational status.

THAT'S why it was allowed to continue flying.

The biden crime family must be taken down.

Why exactly is this news, and why is it a concern? What right do we (the US) have to meddle in a sovereign nation's (Cuba) affairs?

After all, isn't this exactly the reason the Ruskies invaded Ukeland -- which started a major proxy war when Putin had no right to invade that country?

Jobama will sanction China’s Cuba spy base as “the US must cooperate to emphasize our willingness to compete in good faith with China”.

So you want NATO, Cuba, China, Russia all doing whatever they want?

Doesn’t sound like that base is much of a secret anymore.

Fair enough, probably just what elementary school teachers around the U.S. are inviting students to examine.

But I will assume you are a functioning adult and suggest that it all comes down to self-defense, or more formally, "national security".

It is complicated by the fact that several or even all of the sovereign nations you might have in mind have indeed seduced, coerced, compromised, paid off or even bribed some or all of our most recent presidents; at least commencing with Clinton's first term in 1993.

taken right out of the NATO playbook.

The West’s leaders are breathtakingly incompetent and have been since the fall of USSR.

Now that China is a peer state, they will begin acting like all Great Powers do. Fighting for power and influence against other Great Powers. How did China become a Great Power? The West built them up — like a woman who marries a bad-boy thinking they can change them.

Why don’t they just place their secret base in D.C. so they can be close to their associates?

After all, isn't this exactly the reason the Ruskies invaded Ukeland -- which started a major proxy war when Putin had no right to invade that country?

My take isn’t exactly that, but close. The Russian’s rationale was partly the push for Ukraine to join NATA, thus removing a buffer state between Russia and NATO states, plus a claim that Ukraine was somehow a historic part of Russia. I can fully understand the former reasoning by just imagining Russia, China, Iran or some other adversary establishing military bases and/or alliances with Canada, Mexico or Cuba.

I’m personally against the proxy war. We don’t have national interests in Ukraine and if Europe has a problem with Russia’s invasion it is about time for them to pay their own way. I’m also for America leaving NATO, for many of the reasons Trump enumerated, but backed off.

The only parallel to Russian and Ukraine to China in Cuba is proximity, unless you see a proxy war developing. That is China using Cuba as a proxy. That seems doubtful. There still is a notion of the Monroe Doctrine, but really that was aimed at the Spanish and to a lesser degree European colonizers in general. But the idea of keeping nations out of the Western Hemisphere has failed, so there isn’t even that.

The China-Cuba spy base situation a better analog with the Cuban Missile Crisis, although not nearly as dire. It is a threat that needs to be dealt with. More than anything, I think it is China pushing to see how we respond. There are plenty of non-military means to respond and remove the threat.

So you want to continue to be the worlds policeman?

And if you and this corrupt government are worried about threats, why in hell is our border wide open to millions from God knows where?

They already have “secret” police stations here in the U.S. so this is no real surprise. Just give them D.C. and be done with it.
