It was bracing that Ukraine launched its counteroffensive against Russian invaders as we celebrate the anniversary of the 1944 D-Day landings this week. This assault could turn the tide of the battle for Ukraine, just as the Allied assault on the Normandy beaches altered the trajectory of World War II.
Military campaigns are rarely all or nothing, but this one comes close. If Ukraine can drive back an already shaky Russian army, it stands a chance of forcing Moscow to bargain for an end of its failed invasion. But if Ukraine fails, it would be a bitter blow to the country’s weary population and could endanger continued support from some restless NATO members.
Biden administration officials believe the offensive began on Monday with a Ukrainian thrust south along multiple axes.

I moved from the Washington DC area to Texas in late 2012. One thing I don’t miss at all is the Washington Post...
How vile of you. Sarcasm about the paper lining birdcages floors nationwide, not to mention homeless illegals sleeping on the DC streets. I wouldn’t discipline my dog with that rag.
Hope you like Texas. Keep it Red. Regards.
“D-Day for Ukraine?”…Oh…, they mean “Dollar Day”, in which we “get” to send more money we don’t have to Ukraine so that their top officials can continue to live in corrupt luxury. Almost brings a tear to the eye.
.
The comments oughta be good.
“Corrupt luxury”, eh? Yeah, people take luxury vacations in Kyiv.
Support for this proxy war is fading fast. The touted Ukrainian counteroffensive is a Hail Mary attempt to regain some territory and then “force” the Russians to the negotiating table. It is a fool’s errand.
Biden and his incompetent and dangerous national security team wanted this war and now they are stuck. Fighting to the last Ukrainian in order to remove Putin and weaken the Russian military has not worked. NATO is weaker and more divided. Growing domestic political opposition to the war is spreading throughout Europe and the US.
Yesterday, a compromised Joe Biden responded to an ad hoc question from the media on our support for Ukraine by saying, “We’re not leaving.” Makes one wonder about the extent of our involvement in Ukraine. And now we know from Comer that the $5 million bribe mentioned in the FBI CHS document came from Ukraine.
The war in Ukraine has become an albatross around Biden’s neck. The longer it goes on, the more desperate Biden and his team will get. Escalation, intended or unintended, is a real possibility. Blinken, Nuland, Sullivan, Austin, and Milley are at the helm of this ship of fools. Fasten your seatbelts, America, you are in for a bumpy ride.
Ignatius's coverage of the CIA has been criticized as being defensive and overly positive.LOL!

The Ukraine offense began last week and is not going well according to this article in moonofalabama: https://www.moonofalabama.org/2023/06/no-such-propaganda-delusions-will-not-win-the-war.html#more.
So, who to believe?? The Washington Post or moonofalabama???
an interesting dilemma!!
Totally agree with all of your comments.

When is Zelensky in Kiev? He’s been in Washington, D.C., New York, NY, Japan (for the G-7 meeting), and lots of other places, but haven’t seen him in Kiev lately. I guess he hosted McConnell at some point, right?
Plus, he’s got to get that 10% to the “Big Guy”, ya know...
Disaster Day in Ukraine: Kakhovka Dam Destroyed, Ukraine Suffers Heavy Defeat, Incl 8 Leopard Tanks
You completely missed the point. Ukraine is consistently listed as either the most corrupt nation in Europe, or the second-most corrupt after Russia. Zelensky’s wife was widely reported to have spent over 42,000 Euros several months ago at one store in Paris (though this particular story is disputed), and Zelensky himself was revealed in the Pandora Papers to have secret accounts stashed away in the British Virgin Islands. Seymour Hersch reported that the Ukrainians have been skimming money off the top of fuel aid provided by the U.S., with Zelensky himself having embezzled $400 million so far. I’ve also seen reports that about 60% of financial aid provided to Ukraine has been stolen by Zelensky and others in the ruling class, and we also know that many of the weapons provided by the U.S. immediately showed up for sale on the black market.
But just keep sending them money we don’t have, while we also deplete our own weapons and ammunition stores, because some on our side see this as their opportunity to finally “get the Russkies.” I was as much a cold warrior during the 70s and 80s as anyone else on the right, and the Soviets were every bit the evil empire that Reagan said they were, but this is not the 1980s. Yep, Putin is a brutal thug, and no, he should not have invaded Ukraine. But the geopolitical dynamic today is not the straightforward U.S./Europe vs. the Soviet Union dynamic of the past. By far the most dangerous enemy today in the long run is the globalist cabal that is trying to stamp out the last vestiges of national sovereignty across the globe so that they can usher in a totalitarian global government, and Europe and now (under Biden) the U.S. are unfortunately the prime movers pushing it. America under Trump and Putin-led Russia were the two most prominent nations remaining that were still stubbornly clinging to their national sovereignty. Putin has also been adamantly opposed to the “woke” agenda of the globalists. THAT is why they had to take out Trump (which they accomplished) and why they have been gunning for Russia. Putin has undeniably made his own bed, but the globalist west also did everything possible to goad him into invading Ukraine. They wanted this war, and among other objectives they have been using it to drain America’s resources and make it even less prepared for what is likely an unavoidable conflict with China, who is our real near-term adversary (not Russia). I believe that the globalists have left China (who also defends their own national sovereignty and tries to exploit the globalists) alone for now because they are useful to them in the short term. China is temporarily useful because they help the globalists frustrate the efforts of the U.S. to defend its own interests. But the time is certainly coming at some point when China will have served its purpose and at that point the globalist cabal will turn against them as well, because in the end every nation is to be forced to submit to global government.
So there is just the tip of the iceberg of what is really going on today, but you just keep distilling the Ukraine situation down to “get Ivan.”
