Former KTVU anchor Frank Somerville’s tumultuous couple of years took another turn on Monday night when he was arrested in Berkeley following an alleged physical altercation with his brother.
Berkeley Scanner reported that police arrived at the home of Somerville's parents in the Berkeley Hills just after 6:30 p.m. Monday. Police allegedly found Somerville being restrained by his brother, who told the Berkeley Scanner that he and Frank got into a fight after Frank made threats against their father.
According to Alameda County jail records, Somerville, 65, was booked on suspicion of battery with serious bodily injury, threatening a crime with the intent to terrorize and disorderly conduct while intoxicated. His bail was set at $27,500 and, as of late Monday night, Somerville was still in custody at the Berkeley City Jail.
The former anchor had been with KTVU since 1991 and was a respected face in Bay Area local news. But he began making headlines for all the wrong reasons a couple of years ago when he was caught slurring his words during a KTVU broadcast in June 2021. He was suspended from the station a couple months later before being arrested for a DUI in December of that year.

Now, he says, he has quit drinking and only takes one medication — presumably the Ambien — for insomnia.
And he'd like a new anchor job, either in town or in another market.
"I’ve NEVER been in trouble with the law and I never will be again," he said on Facebook. "This dui will not define me."
"I’m a damn good anchor and everyone knows that," he adds. "I’ve always believed in second chances and that’s what I’m asking for now."
