Ukraine’s cross-border tactics are aimed at destabilizing Russia. Judging by the response, they’re working

Ukraine has opened a new front in its battle to drive out the Russian invader - in Russia. But it is oddly coy about admitting that it has sent troops, fired artillery, and flown drones into its neighbor’s territory.

The operations of Russian citizens, carrying Ukrainian military ID, wearing Ukrainian uniforms and attacking from Ukraine, remain officially opaque. It is Kyiv’s contribution to what’s become known as “hybrid warfare” in the “grey zone” of contemporary conflict.

The two terms provoked books and a tsunami of excited opinion from an army of pundits when Russia first invaded Ukraine in 2014.

Back then, “Little Green Men” in peculiar two-tone sport-hunting uniforms – and Russian military fatigues – appeared in Crimea.

When it was suggested that maybe, just maybe, these men were actually Russian troops, Vladimir Putin quipped “You can go to a store and buy any kind of uniform”.

Moscow’s official line was that the men who raised the Russian flag over Simferopol and stormed Crimea’s local parliament were “self defense units” of pro-Russian Ukrainians anxious to bring their territory under Moscow’s rule.

By the time Moscow admitted that its troops were actually in Ukraine, a large chunk of the former Soviet 14-year-old nation was under Putin’s control.

Now, on a small scale, Ukraine is adapting those same tactics to try to secure strategic effect.

The Russian Volunteer Corps and the Freedom for Russia Legion – which fall under Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence structure – have been conducting short cross-border raids into Russia.

The principal aim? Destabilization.

There are plenty of sources showing fighting inside Russia, including Russian artillery and air strikes on their own cities.

But I suspect you already know that and just pretend you don't.

RU AF shelling of Murom.

Do realize back when Vlad authorized 300,000 prior servicemen call up, an additional 50,000 Russians signed up voluntarily. With a current military of 1.2 million, and according to the Duma, approved expansion by 2024 to 1.5 million shows they have no shortages of troops.

Russian nationals view this war as a war against the collective West and NATO’s expansion, which when observing NATOs expansion over the years is correct.

If having military targets in cities excuses strikes that kill civilians then strikes against Donetsk and other Russian controlled cities should not concern you.

Saw some contradictory reports about at least one of the recent 'attacks' from what I believe what was in Donetsk. One televised report (10 News Australia) said the Russians shelled the area. A reporter on the ground said that the Ukrainians that are nearby (in the area where there is still a bulge of Ukrainian controlled area) did the shelling. A third report stated that the damage was caused by Ukrainians shooting down Russian attacks and the damage was a result of that.

I check out RT Today on Rumble at least once a day to see what 'the other side' is saying and there doesn't seem to be alot of war coverage there either. Who the hell knows the actual truth is. I, for one, don't believe any of our Western media.

LOL, the total Russian GDP is less than 1% of the world total.

And their overall economy is shrinking.

For the FR readers who want some actual data, Here is the report of the OSCE for 2017 to 2020.

A few actual numbers from that report:

Shelling: 66 killed and 452 injured
Small arms and light weapons: 11 killed and 96 injured
Mines, unexploded ordnance and other explosive objects: 81 killed and 231 injured
Other: three killed and six injured

That is the total for people on both sides of the DNR/LPR and Ukrainian government controlled areas.

From 2017 to 2020 55 civilians died in the Ukrainian controlled areas, and 97 civilians died in the Russian DNR/LPR controlled areas. See page 11 of the report linked above. Most of the deaths resulted from people accidentally setting off mines or unexploded ordnance.

I have shared this information with you before, but you insist there was a genocide against the DNR/LPR civilians, with Ukrainian shelling causing huge loss of life. That just isn't true.

What is true is that the Russian invasion of Ukraine has caused tens of thousands of deaths, and vast amounts of destruction in formerly peaceful areas of Ukraine. The Russian invasion has killed thousands of Russian speaking Ukrainian civilians in places like Mariupol, Kherson, and Bakhmut.

Vlad has plenty of foreign fighters, good ones too. Remember when Kadyrov and his bunch cleaned up Marioupol? We may not like them, but they are back, in force after a well deserved rest.

Being in Moscow during the Chechnya wars ( training Ivans) I am amazed at how the Chechens who terrorized Russia with suicide bombers, school attacks and displaying such hate are now voluntarily spilling their blood for Vlad…..

I, for one, don't believe any of our Western media.

You don't have to, and you shouldn't believe Russian media either. But you can look at what the local residents are saying and showing in videos.

That lets you see for yourself what the situation is.

Somebody's house and neighborhood in Russia.

Pretty clear that some explosive ordnance arrived nearby from the shrapnel damage to the cars and fences, but not a heavy artillery shell. So it was probably from a mortar or air launched missile.

So you actually think posting another Larry Johnson diatribe through the Gateway Pundit makes him any more respectable?

And yes, I always look at authors' names when reviewing an article, no matter the source platform.

So good try sneaking that one through but NO SALE! LOL!

BTW...

Is Ex-CIA Agent Larry C. Johnson Threatening A Freeper?

First-quarter net profit of Russia's largest oil producer Rosneft (ROSN.MM) rose by 45.5% from the previous three months to 323 billion roubles ($4 billion)

To put your comment in perspective the first quarter profit for ExxonMobil, one of many western oil companies was $11.4 Billion dollars, or almost three times as large as the profit from Russia's entire oil industry.

It is delusional to think that the economy of Russia is anything but that of a third world country.

WE shall not know the truth until the war has been over for at least ten years. The fog of lies—From Both Sides—is too thick. This war will end—as all wars do—there is enough war crimes, criminal acts for all sides (like most wars). No good guys here—I believe.

Exactly. This war is accomplishing only one thing, re-organizing the new world pecking order. The EU, US, and collective West is in severe decline. History shows war is what brought down empires making way for the new.

Who benefits? Everyone but the war mongers; China, India, Brics, ME nations, most likely. US hegemony is dying….in my opinion, exciting times.

Right, the russians under Putin who invaded to grab territory, are just like the Ukrainians defending their families, towns and country. Sure

No, that's not how this works. I have no need what so ever to express my love for America. I live it every single day. None of you neocon ukeNutZ ever express any concern over America and her failing state in this world. You love spending our treasure in foreign places chasing your blood lust which is the most unAmerican, repetitive, losing neocon thing I've witnessed in 63 years.

What you are really after is to change the subject.
