In honor of PRIDE Month (June 2023), History Fort Lauderdale presents “Take PRIDE! A Retrospective of LGBTQ Life in South Florida.”

The multimedia exhibit, located near Swarovski, between Macy’s and Dillard’s, will include over 100 historical photographs plus videos and costumes chronicling the growth, awareness and struggle of the LGBTQ community through the years.

Miami has been a haven for the homosexual crowd for many, many years. I remember when moving there in the 40’s while in my teens, being warned about the many queer bars, and to watch out around the public swimming areas.

Ft Lauderdale was also a haven for the homo crowd. In fact, many parts of Florida were/are. And their biggest employer is Disney. It was that way in 1979 and is still strong today.
