Moscow drone attack: Has Ukraine finally taken the war to Russia? Or is Putin blowing up his own to rally support for his war? Or is there something else going on?

Has Ukraine finally given Russia some payback, given the air strikes now being rained down on Kiev?

A first pass answer seems like it may well be.

According to the New York Times:

At least eight drones targeted Moscow early Tuesday, according to the Russian authorities, the first attack to hit civilian areas in the Russian capital and a potent sign that the war is increasingly reaching the heart of Russia.

The assault came after yet another overnight bombardment by Russian forces of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, which has faced a barrage of attacks in recent weeks that have put the city on edge and tested the country’s air defenses. Kyiv was attacked with at least 20 drones early Tuesday, leaving one person dead and unnerving exhausted residents.

The dueling strikes reflected the dialed-up tension and shifting priorities ahead of Ukraine’s expected counteroffensive. Ukraine has increasingly been reaching far into Russia-held territory, while Moscow has been adjusting its tactics in an effort to inflict significant damage on Kyiv.

Tuesday’s aerial assault on Moscow — in which at least three residential buildings sustained minor damage — comes weeks after a pair of explosions over the Kremlin, a bold strike aimed at President Vladimir V. Putin’s seat of power. U.S. officials said the attack was most likely orchestrated by one of Ukraine’s special military or intelligence units.

The Times says that U.S. officials think it was the Ukrainians who did it, but they are still investigating.

But Ukrainian officials and their allies insist it wasn't Ukraine doing it, it was Russia, some citing strategic advantage:

Reports that drones are generally going for civilian targets. There are casualties. This is now 99% Putin's false-flag terror attack. These tiny drones killing a few Russian civilians accomplish nothing for Ukraine. Some citing recent history, in reference to allegations by murdered journalist Anna Politovskaya that Vladimir Putin blew up a Moscow apartment building to build public support for his Chechen war.

A third theory, noted by Stephen Green at PJMedia, albeit not endorsed, is that it was the work of a new Wagner group wannabe.

See here:

[EXCERPT]

Much of the chatter was generated by this audio clip of Wagner mercenary organization chief Yevgeny Prigozhin absolutely going off on the Russian military for allowing the attack.

“You a**holes, get your a**es out of the offices you were put in to defend this country,” was one of Prigozhin’s nicer statements.

I have been seeing those drone videos in Moscow and I was thinking something feels off.

But hearing Prigozhin “exploding” makes me wonder whether neither Ukraine nor the Kremlin are responsible for this but somebody in Russia with ambition, like him.

you said ...”Ukraine nor the Kremlin are responsible “

It's a tangled web that's weaved...
This war seems to be a little different then the one's of the past.
I can't put my finger on it ...
Strange bed fellows in the US ..
China just sort of standing outside the fray.
WEF backers wringing their hands ..
Bricks moving in the background.
I fear that nefarious foes are afoot.

It is possible that someone in Russia is doing this in order to make Putin look weak. It’s a pretext that could lead up to a coup.

Now it remains to be seen if Putin starts purging leaders of questionable loyalty (a Soviet tradition) or...?

This whole Ukraine thing looks more and more every day like a “Wag the Dog”. movie script and Zelensky is Sgt. Schumann. They are even selling shirts with Zelensky’s mug on it with a caption “LEGEND”, which is a title usually assigned posthumously so it would seem the producers of this faux war sequel have the same future planned for the Zelensky character as the Sgt. Schumann character in the original film.

There’s a headline that sums up the whole war, for me. What to believe?

Sure. Putin attacked his own neighborhood, just like the Russians blew up their own Nord Stream pipelines! You’d have to retarded to believe that.

You guys are living in the world of dreams and this action is supposed to maintain it.
Putin doesn’t need more “support for war”, it is overwhelming regardless.
Also the attack is particularly laughable for all practical reasons.
A dozen of drones, of them all crashed or destroyed, except one that broke to window in the apartment.

It is possible that someone in Russia is doing this in order to make Putin look weak. It's a pretext that could lead up to a coup.

Except that Putin is currently as popular as he has ever been. Polls from multiple sources gauge his approval at over 80% in Russia. Compare that with Joe Biden's approval rating.

Pollsters who said Putin had lower approval ratings all fell out of windows.

Most of them are not based in Russia, and if this was happening why are there no stories about it in the news?

RE: Putin doesn’t need more “support for war”, it is overwhelming regardless.

How many military aged men in Russia are volunterring to fight in Ukraine?

RE: A dozen of drones, of them all crashed or destroyed, except one that broke to window in the apartment.

If so, Doesn’t that look like a planned self-sabotage to inflict the most minimal damage?

Russia has been jamming not only the frequencies used to control drones, but also global positioning signals for months now.

Drivers with the Russian equivalent of Uber or Lyft have reported that when they get within a kilometer or two of the Kremlin, their gps systems show them more than 20 kilometers away at the airport.

Putin would still safer in Moscow than Chicago, San Francisco, or Baltimore.

U.S. officials still can't figure out who blowed up the Ruskie pipeline. Too funny.

Putin is less likely to fall out of a window in Chicago, San Francisco, or Baltimore.

If the Russians are doing this successfully as you described, then this drone attack on the Kremlin CAN’T be from an Ukrainian drone, it looks like a Russian false flag operation to inflict minimal damage so as to bolster the collective wills of the populace for the continuation of the war.

"Has Ukraine finally taken the war to Russia? Or is Putin blowing up his own to rally support for his war? Or is there something else going on?"

Monica Showalter suggests various "options" to answer a silly question.

Given that two non-NATO countries are warring, to expect that one would not attack the other, and one would not defend as best it can, this is war. Call it a "special military operation" it's still war.

Between two non-NATO nations.

Meanwhile NATO is busy in the Kosovo-Serbia conflict trying not to ignite another big mess. In Europe.

So, the premise of the article is inane. Time will tell how this all shakes out. I imagine that the outcome will surprise many, because that's what war is and does.

A lot of Russian olligarchs have alredy flown from windows or committed suicide after hacking their wives and children to pieces with axes or knives. Tall buildings in the US are a lot safer, a lot of their windows don;t open. Besides, guns here are a lot more comon than axes,
