'Republicans got outsmarted by a President who can't find his pants': GOP Rep. Nancy Mace joins growing list of at least TWENTY-SIX defectors voting 'NO' on Kevin McCarthy's debt ceiling 'debacle'
The Daily Mail ^ | 30 May 2023 | Morgan Phillips

GOP Rep. Nancy Mace grew a swelling list of Republicans who are balking at the cost of the debt limit deal Speaker Kevin McCarthy cut with President Biden.

The debt limit deal includes $136 billion in budget cuts and suspends the debt ceiling until Jan. 1, 2025 - after the 2024 election.

Some of the opposed Republicans, who passed a bill last month - the Limit, Save, Grow Act - that would only raise the ceiling by $1.5 trillion, say the debt limit suspension goes beyond that is necessary and gives the Biden administration the ability to overspend for the next two years.

'Republicans got outsmarted by a President who can't find his pants. I'm voting NO on the debt ceiling debacle because playing the DC game isn't worth selling out our kids and grandkids,' Mace said in announcing her opposition to the deal Tuesday.

'This 'deal' normalizes record high spending started during the pandemic. It sets these historically high spending levels as the baseline for all future spending,' Mace sounded off on Twitter.

'After factoring in a small cut to discretionary spending over the next 2 yrs, we are still talking about ~$6T more or less in spending bc of large increases in spending elsewhere. In other words, it's a wash spending-wise.'

The deal also leaves non-defense discretionary spending flat in 2024 and allows for a one percent increase in 2025 - essentially amounting to cuts since inflation is not factored in.

Mace joins a list of at least 18 definite Republican no votes on the bill.

'After I heard about the debt ceiling deal, I was a NO. After reading the debt ceiling deal, I am absolutely NO!!' Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., wrote on Twitter.

'This 'deal' is insanity,' tweeted Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C.

No, a bunch of Fortune 100 companies along with pension fund managers basically commanded Biden and McCarthy to do what they are going to do in the end. Everything before that was described up stream by a poster, Kabuki Theater.

The “No” numbers are growing. Apparently, representatives are hearing from their constituents (who are pissed). My representative put out the word that he wanted to hear from his voters

You cannot be serious, I am looking for some heart break music for you, but this one will be tough to assuage

One thing is for certain, McCarthy really, really thinks the Public is dumb.

A Carnival Barker would’ve blushed selling this crap.

The voters don’t want them to cut spending.

Yep, we would have to cut all non-entitlement spending (yes, it is an entitlement, its not your money per ( Nestor v. Fleming ), including defense and we might balance the budget for FY 2023, 2.3T is needed for SSI, Medicare, and Medicaid, which is over 50% of the budget, not including the other 2.8T of accounting slight of hand instruments dishonestly nicknamed the "Social Security Lockbox".

So until these entitlements are privatized, there is no way out of this mess.

All FReepers need to know the following:

1) McCarthy was endorsed by Trump, who has been silent since the framework of the agreement was announced.

2) DeSantis came out immediately and condemned the agreement

Your primary vote is important.
Do we support conservatives like DeSantis or Trump-endorsed RINOs like McCarthy?

DeSantis is strongly opposed and, to date and as far as I know, Trump has been pretty quiet about it. (He supported McCarthy)

Newt Gingrich said on Hannity radio this afternoon that the bill should be considered only a first step and that passing the bill will leave Republicans in a “stronger” position.

I respect Newt but my stance continues to be let’s keep going toward default. A financial guy I know says the default scare is just politics. Too little is said about what will happen when we cross the line into default.

“You cannot be serious, I am looking for some heart break music for you, but this one will be tough to assuage”.

I realize that not everyone has a representative such as the one I’m luckily enough to have represent my district. However, he gives out his personal phone number and will answer when you call. He listens to his voters. He is a business-owner and a long-timed member of the rural communities he represents and has been vocal about our nation’s debt for years. That’s why he was recruited into running for the seat.

I’m sure a lot, and even most, representatives ignore the phone calls and emails of their voters, but occasionally you find one that has not (yet) been corrupted.

People thought that the Freedom Caucus would have no chance of forcing concessions from McCarthy to be elected speaker. The Freedom Caucus fooled them and actually pulled McCarthy further right for the first five months of the year. They do actually hold some sway as to whether this bill will pass.

Just what I was saying yesterday, HOW the hell can you not deal with a guy who has dementia? All you have to say is “Get rid of those 87,000 IRS agents or you get no ice cream”

My memory is that a motion to vacate the chair (remove the Speaker) is a preferred one that grinds everything to a standstill until a Speaker is elected. It is a priority and everything else is frozen and can’t be done. I hope he (Bishop) does it before the vote on the cave in bill.

Some commentator on Sky News (Australia) noted that the leader of the free world is a bloke who couldn’t find his way home after dark.
Worse, I might add, is that bloke is surrounded by murderous fools and bankrupt frauds who treat him as if he was conscious.

Good luck on that. Any politician (outside of a solid red “safe” district) who touches welfare medicare or social security is toast in this political climate.

Exactly. That’s why Nancy Mace can shoot her mouth off criticizing this deal. She knows who’s going to support it and who’s not. She knows this disaster is going to pass. She does this to show the voters that she’s a fiscal conservative come re-election time.

Kabuki Theater indeed.
