A Mississippi police officer accused of shooting an unarmed 11-year-old child who called law enforcement for assistance in a domestic disturbance incident has been suspended without pay, according to reports.
The action taken against Sgt. Greg Capers of the Indianola Police Department as an investigation is ongoing into the shooting that unfolded last weekend at the home of Aderrien Murry, Murry family attorney Carlos Moore told The Associated Press.
The mother said police responded to the residence in the rural city around 4 a.m. Saturday after the father of one of her other children showed up, knocked on a window and appeared irate.
Moore told AP that two police officers responded, and one kicked the front door before Nakala Murry opened it. She told them the intruder had left the area, but three children were inside, according to Moore.
Moore said Nakala Murry told him that Capers yelled into the home and said anyone inside should come out with their hands up. Moore said Aderrien walked into the living room with nothing in his hands, and Capers shot him in the chest.
"His words to me was ‘why did he shoot me?"’ Nakala Murry said her son told her right after being hit. "He ran to me, he was bleeding, I held him... he bled out the mouth."
The child spent five days in a local hospital for treatment for a collapsed lung, lacerated liver and fractured ribs before being discharged Wednesday, Moore said.

50 year old cop, not rookie.
Mississippi is not burning.
White cop? Black child? If so, BLM is bankrupt, here come the riots.
Thank God he lived!
Black cop, black child.
So down the memory hole it goes.
No rioting then. BLM will remain bankrupt. Both morally and financially.
Usually, the first stories are missing a lot or much is wrong, so I'll wait for more info.
If this happened as the story says...not good, at all.
Thankfully, the child survived.
Every time a story like this surfaces, the police lose a little support from the middle class. And that is no small thing. We need the police. And the police need us.
I get that police work is difficult, and often dangerous. But my goodness. Are they taught nothing about de-escalation? Must everything be a SWAT raid into a terrorist meth lab?
Shoot the dog. Shoot the kid. Shoot the guy holding a cell phone.
Is this an oxymoron?
Just can’t get used to seeing uniformed policemen with wino stubble.
I noticed that, too, but what kind of writing do you expect from a pro golfer?
Good, I hope the family presses charges.
That suspended (w/o pay) Police Officer probably paid a nice sum for that close shave or ‘Scruff’ look.
For now, he can do his own beard trim and take a good look in the mirror, ask himself “What was I thinking to shoot that Boy? Why was I so jumpy right then? Maybe it’s time to switch to De-Caf before a shift.”
A year from now we’ll be reading the same story except it will be an illegal alien police officer operating with full approval of a Democrat mayor.
With their last money including coins found under couch cushions BLM will hire Al Sharpton as an advisor. He’ll work with a percentage of future incoming funds.
Finally BLM will get the exploitation plans and disciplined response strategies a seasoned race baiter can provide.
I always remember the advice of the police chief of Kenosha during that fiasco a couple of years ago: If you don’t want the police shooting someone who is invading your home or abducting your child, then don’t call the police when you have a problem with someone invading your home or abducting your child.
Agreed.
