Top Conservatives Slam McCarthy-Biden Agreement: ‘With Republicans Like These, Who Needs Democrats?’

Many top conservatives slammed the bipartisan agreement reached between President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy over the weekend that is expected to prevent the U.S. from defaulting on its debt.

While the details of the agreement are still being ironed out, and congressional leaders still have to convince their Members to vote for it, some of the top Republicans in Washington, D.C., are not happy with the agreement.

“There are members of the GOP claiming Democrats got nothing from the ‘deal.’ Oh really? 1) An uncapped debt ceiling with an expiration date – worth approximately $4 trillion…? 2) basically no cuts – a freeze at bloated 2023 spending level?” Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), a House Freedom Caucus member, tweeted. “ZERO claw back of the $1.2 Trillion ‘inflation reduction act’ crony giveaways to elite leftists for grid-destroying unreliable energy…? 4) 98% of the IRS expansion left fully in place…? 5) no work requirements for Medicaid? – & only age adjustments for TANF/SNAP…?”

“No REINS act statutory requirement for congress to approve huge regulations – just an ‘administrative’ paygo that the administration will get to enforce? 7) No border security!! – & a deal allowing them to avoid policy riders in the fall… 8) more…” he added.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) responded, “With Republicans like these, who needs Democrats?”

Top conservatives?

Conservative has been misappropriated by professional politicians registered as Republicans.

Who are they trying to kid?

They are as much of the problem as those that they are pointing fingers at.

Claiming to be a conservative does not absolve yourself from the collective blame earned by the Uniparty of which you are a card carrying member.

Most of the republicans are democrats

You might just as well say,"most of the democrats are republicans".

Not sure you grasp the meaning of your statement, though.

Problem is real conservatives are a small minority and therefore have little clout.

It’s all pure BS... Debt ceiling was raised, both “sides” claim victory and those who reject it in Congress arespecifically chosen to make them look good during the next election cycle.

Doesn’t quite match the covid scamdemic level but another scam on the American people.

My youngest grandson could run the government better.

All that needs to happen is for the executive branch to spend no more money. Don’t pay employees and contractors.
Suspend every contract possible and don’t sign any new contracts.

Pay interest on the debt. There is enough money for that. This is an artificial event able to capitalize on the lack of logical thinking in the public education system.

The government continues to hurtle towards a debt crisis and if you like inflation you are in luck. It is here to stay because our government spends more than it takes in. Simple economics with far more pain when the economy heads south.

However, as much as I understand the end game there are the politics of realism and the politics of principle. McCarthy made a realistic deal. He has the slimmest of margins in the house so the idea that he somehow had the power to stand on principle (he is not that guy anyways) versus making a deal with concessions is fantasy.

Name one budget you have been happy with in the past 5 decades. On principle, I believe much of the spending and government itself is unconstitutional, but where will that get me in DC and does a majority of the public agree?

The last statement is the rub. Americans have gotten used to easy money and big government. Without changing that it will make no difference who the speaker is and we would have to elect a principled group of republicans vs the republicrats we have.

Just take a look at the tax rates of 1978 Britain:

below £750 - rate of 25 per cent,

otherwise below £7,000 - basic rate of 34 per cent

The next £1,000 40 per cent.
The next £1,000 45 per cent.
The next £1,000 50 per cent.
The next £1,500 55 per cent.
The next £1,500 60 per cent.
The next £2,000 65 per cent.
The next £2,500 70 per cent.
The next £5,500 75 per cent.
The remainder 83 per cent.

https://api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/commons/1978/apr/17/8-income-tax-charges-and-rates-for-1978

That £7,000 is about $100,000 in 2023 money. The 55% bracket kicked in at about $140,000 in 2023 money.

There’s a reason why Joe wants 80,000 new IRS people, the tax rates are going to go so high that millions of Americans will try to illegally avoid getting fleeced.

Imagine if you’ve been paying 20% of your income to the IRS and then are mandated to pay 40%.

Democrats will gain absolute power in January 2025 unless Democratic ward heelers are shown to have failed to deliver on Democratic 2020 election vote buying promises.

Joe Biden’s 2020 election-winning vote buying promise to student loan debtors must be blocked so a Republican can stand a chance of becoming President.

Voter bribery matters. It must not be allowed to consume our nation like a cancer.

“there are the politics of realism”

There is an alternate path forward via the bill already passed by the House. That bill is reasonable (except for the continuation of the funding of wasteful and harmful programs).

If the nation defaults it will be 100% the fault of obstinate Democrats like Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden.

The Republicans in the House hold the winning cards, all they have to do is hold them firmly.

I do not dispute what you say and its correct. However, there is not enough Viagra in DC to make the republicrats stand firm.

The right wing and MAGA need to elect better men and women. Until then, this is what we get and the republicrats we sent there have been promoting the fiscal insanity along with the democrats.

“The right wing and MAGA need to elect better men and women.”

Politicians generally are liars, and they are generally good at lying.
