On Friday’s broadcast of CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Ford Motor Company President and CEO Jim Farley argued that building up the electric vehicle charging infrastructure so people can go wherever they can with a gas-powered car will require retailers to put fast chargers in front of stores, which will require a change in building standards.
Co-host Becky Quick asked, “[J]ust the idea of building up the infrastructure and making sure that you can go anywhere that you would with a gasoline-powered vehicle, how long do you think it takes before those problems are really resolved and you don’t run into snags along the way, especially as there is more EV adoption and you’re going to need more charging stations to handle more people who are doing this, more customers?”

head fake
we will be on busses
We will be on trains, but not to worry, it's only a shower.
Process is not an abstract phenomenon to follow. If a process faces a roadblock or bottleneck, you can’t proceed until that is resolved.
I thought that in the new modern cities, everything that we needed would be within a 15 minute walk.
Electric boxcars?
The few I have seen in front of stores look like they won’t last long in freezing weather, ice storms, wind storms and sudden temperature swings. In other words Michigan (and other states).
Plus, some punky kid on a skateboard could decide to cut or sabotage the row of them on the way to spray painting some walls. Some have rubber hoses but except for a video cam, who is watching them? This is a replacement for gas stations with employees——no one is monitoring the chargers in secluded places or the rear of apartment complexes.
But the new item to me (you guys knew all along?) is the EV tires wear out really fast (under 10,000 miles) due to the heavy weight and new ones cost a lot to cope with the weight. And release chemicals into the air.
That will be the irony, they’ll want to make sure those trains arrive on time, so they’ll use coal for those.
WTF else do you jack wagons need to change in my life?
FOAD
Pizza
I agree. They be autonomous buses. It'll go to your designated bus stop every 15 minutes. If you want to take personal transportation to a specific place, you'll take uber instead.
What’s another trillion on the national debt? $33 trillion or $34 trillion — what’s the diff?
We already have the optimized fuel delivery system for liquid fuels. We built it up over 75 years, then maintained it and optimized it over the next years.
Sure, let’s wreck that wonderful liquid fuel delivery system and start over. It’s the Democrat way — take what works and destroy it for NO REASON whatsoever.
The fast chargers for ICE vehicles works very well, why change it? I can fully recharge my Cessna in 10 minutes and go 400-500 miles without stopping, now my cadillac recharges in less than 5 minutes but only has a 300 mile range
Ha ha, good one.
So all EV trucks will have 100 mile limit and 50 if towing?
Yea that would be a change in “standards”
We'll keep using our energy efficient fossil fuel vehicles thank you!
Most chargers will need to be at workplaces because the sun shines bright at midday and because most people work then.
Most old folks will charge their EVs at home, but some will charge them at health care facilities such as doctors offices and others living in say NFC will charge their EVs along the street.
Ford will have to ask for reparations like they did after WWII because allied bombing destroyed their factories in Nazi Germany.
And what is going to our roads. More asphalt, more oil! Oh no!
