A gauge of consumer prices closely watched by the Federal Reserve showed inflation accelerating in April.
The personal consumption expenditure (PCE) price index rose 0.4 percent in April, up from the 0.1 percent rise a month earlier. Economists had forecast a milder increase to 0.3 percent.
Compared with April of last year, the PCE price index is up 4,4 percent, a faster annual pace of inflation than the 4.2 percent recorded in March.
Core PCE prices, a gauge that excludes the volatile categories of food and energy, also rose by 0.4 percent. Many economists look to core prices as a guide to underlying inflationary pressures. In March, core PCE prices were up 0.3 percent.
Compared with a year ago, core PCE inflation is up 4.7 percent, an acceleration from the 4.6 percent annual pace recorded in March. Core PCE prices have been up between 4.6 and 4.7 percent in each of the last five months, indicating that the Fed’s hikes have made no progress in bringing down the rate of inflation.
The Fed uses the PCE price index as the basis for its target of two percent annual inflation, which the central bank views as consistent with its mandate to sustain price stability.

All we need now is the “Republicans POUNCE on inflation uptick to attack Biden” story.
By all means, keep hiking that rate. But don’t even consider halting massive deficit spending and money printing.

Transitory (Adjective)- occurring repeatedly; so frequent as to seem endless and uninterrupted:
How to address inflation:
1) Severely prune the Dems’ insane trillions in deficit spending.
2) Encourage domestic energy production and supply to reduce enegy input costs.
3) Amend Constitution to deny any pay to Congressors and Senators in any period when the budget is not balanced or in surplus.

If you were king for a day ...what spending would you cut?
How much?
this is a real question... with the web of spending , one thing ties to another... where do we start and where do we go next?
How do we handle the blow back?
That stupid fugly bitch at Treasury said inflation was going to be transitory. Democrats and I suspect many Republicans in Congress are following Yellen’s lead on the debt limit and budget negotiations. The uniparty is out to destroy America.
Deliberate inflation deliberate
If I were king for a year, I would dismantle most government agencies, thereby saving 100s of billions of dollars: Dept of Energy, Dept of Education, TSA, Dept of Homeland Security, most of the FBI, CDC, NIH, EPA, Dept of Commerce. All would go. Any necessary functions of these expensive behemoths would revert to the states. That'd be a good start.
If I were King, the first thing I would cut is... the arms and legs of every Deep State member. /spit
Unexpected? Inflation is doing what the stones in the street expected it to do for quite a while now. What exactly does anyone expect to stop it?
“If you were king for a day ...what spending would you cut?

I’d cut EVERYTHING that doesn’t affect me, since I deserve my SS, Medicare, and other handouts.
It is the spending on OTHER PEOPLE that angers me.
I think I detect a bit of sarcasm mingled with frustration and a little dab of #%$^^...
I can totally relate.
Did anyone think prices were going down? No one needs this report to know that wasn’t occurring.
We all have paid into SS and medicare for all the years that we work-if we work or own a business at any age, we still do-and a medicare premium is deducted from your SS check before you even get it, never mind what you already paid in all these years, so that isn’t a handout-that is a partial repayment on a theft from every worker from every paycheck. What is being spent on mojados, welfare queens, etc like medicaid EBT cards, etc are real giveaways to non-working people that those of us who work paid/are paying for-the two are not comparable...
That said-get rid of every fed program that is non-productive and/or redundant and corrupted-just like it works in the corporate world-we are the stockholders and we are unhappy with the returns on investment...

Yep, and I tested my theory here a while ago. I suggested that Middle/Upper Class Welfare Programs (mainly Social Security and Medicare) be run like Child Support, as many other countries do. If you have 3 kids, for example, and they are all dentists, perhaps they should help Mom and Dad out, rather than having the government point guns at strangers to make them cough up money for Mom and Dad (which is exactly where we’re at, having spent all of our Trust Funds). Look at the family tree and see who’s there and capable of helping...ONLY AFTER THAT should the government start pointing guns at others.
Needless to say, that didn’t go over very well here, so I can see why Trump is TOTALLY HANDS OFF of those programs, even if GOP idiots like Paul Ryan think they can reform them.
The Democrat Party is destroying this economy.
