I absolutely think that Ukraine wants to join NATO and should be admitted to NATO. That’s why them attacking tNATO member Turkey in some sort of clandestine operation makes no sense, Turkey is already the most likely hold out for the unanimous vote Ukraine will need to be accepted to NATO.
Occam’s razor is not slicing in your favor, this most likely is just a run of the mill skirmish between two warring parties, Ukraine and russia and has nothing to do with any gas pipeline.
