Well, to summarize for those who don’t want to go to the link, his story seems to be this:
Him and his friends prefer to ride a certain type of Citi Bike, a newer model e-bike that isn’t available everywhere. They go to the Bronx to find them, then ride them for the rest of the day around the city. So they did that and had four of these e-bikes that they brought with them. However, if they keep those bikes rented for more than 45 minutes they have to pay a higher rate. So they find a place to redock them before the 45 minutes hits, then rent them again.
This time, they didn’t immediately re-rent them, as they wanted to rest and get something to drink. And that’s when the lady rented one of “their” bikes.
Of course, once they redocked them, they no longer had any claim to those bikes at all, and certainly not after someone else paid to rent one.
So they were gaming the system and he didn’t think that he could have rented another bike at a reduced rate even it it wasn’t a “new bike”!
If she had paid to rent one, why was she asking several people to let her have their bikes? Doesn’t the scan include some kind of ID of the actual bike one has rented?
It’s all very confusing; and the woman’s bizarre, overdone histrionics on the video made me very suspicious from the get-go.
Good summary except I would add a couple things....
1.) The purpose of the 45 minute limit is to allow others to use them and prevent one person from hogging them.
2.) This guy rode around the city from 5pm until 10 pm AND DIDN’T PAY ANYTHING because he gets it free because he is on “public assistance”.
It sounds to me like 2 incredibly rude parties got into a fight over the bike. The boy was not following normal social protocols and was taking advantage of something he was being given for free. The woman is an entitled brat who felt she deserved the bike more than him and grabbed it out of his hands and then cried when he resisted.
This is why I don’t live around these types of people.
