I was in SF in February, and took some out of town guests around for the day. I didn’t see a single instance of this.

Go down near the convention center. It's appalling how bad it is.

I have been to the convention center, just last weekend, and the streets (Howard, etc) were pristine. Also down Howard up to Central Computer.

I didn't go to the Convention Center, but Union Square, parts of Mission, Chinatown, North Beach, Marina, Crissy Field, Russian Hill, Outer Sunset and others.

I generally eschew the Tenderloin and the Castro. But I was in the tenderloin about 6 or 7 years ago, it doesn't feel dangerous like an East Coast city.
