Donald Trump threw his hands in the air in fury during a virtual appearance in a Manhattan court on Tuesday as a judge scheduled the Stormy Daniels 'hush money' criminal trial for March 25, 2024.
It means the former president will be in a Manhattan courtroom for weeks in the middle of the Republican primaries and just months before the presidential election.
The court day lies just weeks after the 'Super Tuesday' primaries set for March 5, and days after Florida's March 19 contest that will pit Trump against Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Trump, 76, scowled into the camera during a Zoom appearance as Judge Juan Merchan told him to cancel all commitments during the trial and put a protective order in place banning him from sharing evidence in public.
He made the appearance as it was revealed his main rival in the GOP race, DeSantis, would formally announce he is running for President in a Twitter Spaces on Wednesday night.
A visibly-irritated Trump, wearing a blue suit against a backdrop of American flags at his Mar-a-Lago estate, turned to his lawyer during the appearance
'President Trump is running for President of the United States and is the leading contender,' his attorney Todd Blanche told the judge. 'He is very much concerned that his 1st Amendment rights are being violated.'
The charges are related to a $30,000 payoff to a doorman trying to sell information about a child that Trump allegedly fathered out of wedlock; $150,000 to former Playboy model Karen McDougal, and a $130,000 payment to Daniels.
Trump had pleaded not guilty last month to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records at his family company, the Trump Organization.

Devil’s advocate position, but I sometimes think Trump could do a more valuable service to America by backing partition. There are clearly two incompatible versions of America now, and rather than going through all this turmoil, why not cut off the most diseased portions (east and west coasts and a Midwestern urban island), declare the independence of the remaining heartland with about half the population in each entity, and govern each portion separately.
My guess is the socialist Amerika would go bankrupt and descend into chaos within 10-20 years (days?) and the heartland America would prosper, of course suitable citizens of the globalist cesspool could and would emigrate to join and the heartland would probably shed a few million progressives. All of that would only strengthen heartland America.
Trump would win in a landslide in that formulation and a new constitution could give future presidents one six year term rather than this now-chaotic four year constant campaign mode.
The constitution of the heartland portion should specify that “excluded states” could rejoin their federation in two ways. Contiguous portions (like eastern Oregon, eastern WA) could join at birth or soon afterwards. Their electoral college proportions would be adjusted to reflect the lower populations. The second way in would be for entire states to secede from Amerika (as I am calling the Gates-Obama-Sorosian Federation of Enlightened Unigender Amerikans) and rejoin. There would be one interesting option for structural change. Large urban areas should have their votes fractionalized on a formula, the larger the census metropolitan area (to prevent work around solutions) the smaller the fraction. Metro New Yorkers would if in the heartland receive only 10% of a vote, metro Kansas City might be closer to 50%. Then if large urban states rejoined the real America from the fake one, they would have considerably fewer electoral college votes and urban fraud would be a much less serious problem.
I would justify all that on the basis of fully representative government — large cities have powerful city governments and a lot of clout in their states (unless state voting followed the same formula). So urban residents already control two powerful governments, why should they also control a federal government whose many duties are most often relevant to less populated regions. It would be a tacit admission that the wisdom of the formula of the electoral college and the Senate should be re-designed to meet modern reality.
If Trump would support this and several other prominent citizens got on board, perhaps we would see a move to this outcome and the actual result would not be a diminished America but a reborn America, ready to place itself in a more appropriate place than these globalist usurpers desire.
Or you can just let them ruin your wonderful country and see what happens next. Being a student of history, I already know the answer to that.

DeSantis is not responsible for defending Trump in his litigations with a porn actress and Playboy playmate. Further, DeSantis is not running against Trump. He is running for the GOP nomination. It so happens that Trump and now several others have entered the same contest. I will support whoever emerges as the victor, but I would much prefer a candidate who has a realistic chance at carrying the swing states, and thus the presidency.

But what has that got to do with DeSantis? Unless... you’re claiming that DeSantis is part of those attacks on Trump...which I do not believe. I could be wrong, though. I sure as hell was wrong about GWB.
If that is what you are claiming, please provide proof of DeSantis’s culpability in the RINO and DS persecution of Trump. I think DeSantis is a decent “backup plan” candidate, should Trump be disqualified or kept from running next year.

You know....by the same Uniparty that promises the moon when they’re the minority party, but when we give them the majority power they asked for....they proceed to sit on their @sses and do NOTHING with the power. Nothing but Kabuki Theatre. And then Trump comes along and they proceed to backstab him at every turn.

Then clarify, please. What you did say sounded like you were lumping DeSantis in with the DS RINO aholes to me. I don’t see it as DeSantis trying to take Trump out. I think DeSantis cares just as much about the nation as Trump does and I think he wants to see things made right. It remains to be seen if he’s the one that could do that, if Trump is eliminated from being able to run. Only time would tell, and he would have a just as impossible job to do (drain the swamp) as Trump had. I don’t think it’s even possible at this late stage.

If there was a movement with many tens of millions of patriots who really want to stop the Communist and Nazis from subverting America beyond repair, and they had this historic popular leader of that movement, would you run against the leader of that historic movement?

Yeah, here’s the problem. The DS radical left is working feverishly to eliminate Trump from even being able to run in 2024 (next year). It doesn’t take an Einstein to figure that out, right? I have to wonder if DeSantis either knows something we don’t know about that impending situation...or has decided to run just in case Trump is unable to run at the last minute. Which is a very possible outcome, from what I’m seeing with all of these persecutions/prosecutions.
If the left manages to keep Trump from running next year, we will need a backup plan. I don’t know of ANY other candidate that has a record of solid conservative policies like DeSantis does. We’re screwed if they take Trump out of the running and there is nobody left (pardon pun) to run against the commies in DC. At least, that’s the way I see things.

Catching on? I certainly don’t see DeSantis as a rat. A rat wouldn’t have done as good a job as Governor against the left. But your extreme bias and partisanship is duly noted.
Trying to paint DeSantis as another Romney or GWB also isn’t working with me. I’m going to need some evidence or proof....convincingly so. I stopped going by face value re: politics a long time ago. Show me what DeSantis has done that is so wrong, please. Other than to dare to run against Trump (still yet to be officially and formally announced) and other than not kissing Trump’s ....er.....ring.
