Moscow running scared: Kremlin evacuates nine border villages and admits there is 'cause for serious concern' as pro-Ukraine fighters capture territory within Russia's Belgorod region

Russian authorities have ordered residents of nine villages in the Belgorod region bordering Ukraine to evacuate their homes after anti-Putin rebel groups began capturing territory on Russian soil.

The Kremlin's order comes hours after a pair of explosions rang out in the city of Belgorod overnight amid drone attacks on the FSB security service building and Interior Ministry offices.

Regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov confirmed the aerial bombing raid had caused fires at government buildings and urged citizens to take shelter amid the rebel attacks.

Ukrainian military intelligence said two armed Russian opposition groups, the Freedom of Russia Legion and the Russian Volunteer Corps, were behind the biggest armed incursion into Russian territory since Putin's February 24, 2022 invasion of his neighbour – recognised as a 'serious cause for concern' by the Kremlin.

The attack was seemingly unexpected, with the rebels able to gain control of several Russian towns in a matter of hours.

You are welcome to your fantasies, but the facts don’t support your position.

Every single major prewar army formation has been identified in Ukraine at one time or another. Many have been consolidated after losses. Many have been withdrawn to be rebuilt.

There are brigades missing from border forces facing Finland and the Baltics. There have been specialist Arctic units deployed. There have been Naval units transferred from Vladivostok.

And then there are equipment losses, that are as well documented as any in military history. These have been massive.

And then there is the interesting matter of the change in the nature of artillery. The Russians seem to no longer be using, so much, their best 155mm artillery, on which they once relied heavily. They may be short of ammo for them, or they are largely worn out. The current go-to for them is 120mm mortars. These still seem to have abundant ammo, and are harder to spot by counterbattery systems. Conversely they have short range and so its difficult to concentrate fires because of that. And they are useless for counterbattery. They are very much a substitute.

Etc and etc.

Everything combines to say that Russia has committed its all, save the air force.

Hmm.

Your lack of education is showing.

This is an ancient tactic.

I’m not convinced it won’t happen....yet...or in what form it will be or where.
Not comfortable with the Belgorod situation that happened so this is anything but over. Zelensky back in Ukraine it’s said but I even question that. Maybe hiding out in Poland or some place in Europe.

Isn’t that what Hannibal was famous (notorious?) for?

Opportunistically attack weaker italian city-states for money, food, and (in his case) recruit more to fight for him, but also to attack where you wont lose, and keep the roman armies guessing.

Bakhmut Folds: Russia Takes City + Ukraine's Struggle Against Toll of Attrition

Update on the conflict in Ukraine for May 22, 2023:

- Russian Ministry of Defense claims the Donbass city of Bakhmut/Artyomovsk has been fully taken by Russian forces;

- Western analysts claim the city’s capture will not “turn the tide” of the conflict, ignoring the war of attrition taking place superseding territorial advances;

- The US is sending another weapons package to Ukraine featuring an unspecified amount of ammunition for HIMARS, artillery systems, anti-tank weapons, and both bridging and logistics equipment;

- The US is also incrementally moving in favor of sending Ukraine F-16 fighter jets through third party nations in Europe. The F-16 represents no specific capability Ukraine’s own air force didn’t have before being removed from the battlefield;

- The Western media continues incrementally admitting the limits in military industrial output preventing the US and Europe from providing Ukraine with weapons and ammunition to match or exceed Russia’s military capabilities;

Do you have a source for that?

“So, Palestinian-like terrorist attacks are what Ukraine, with Biden regime and NATO's approval, must resort to?
Yes, under Biden, are the new evil empire. The 80% of the rest of the world knows it.

You reap what you sow. Unfortunately, moral and decent Americans and Europeans that didn't vote and don't support any of this are also going to be stuck with consequences that include potentially WWIII and de-dollarization, which could destroy our quality of life.

You're not only clown, Marcus, you're devoid of a moral compass.”

That is right you reap what you sow Kazan. As a supporter of Russia you and Putin are going to pay. Lack of “moral compass”. Boy you should talk. Russian "moron".

This is one of the idiots who led the attack on Belgorod...its not the first time he's tried to "invade" Russia, apparently.

The Russian neo-Nazi hooligan who led an anti-Putin militia across the border

Yes, because he was frustrated in bringing the Roman armies to decisive battle, which was his deepest desire. He was trying to get the Romans to come out and challenge him.

The strategy of Quintus Fabius (Fabius Conctator) was to avoid battle, and beat up on Hannibals allies.

Both sides therefore, for 11 years, engaged as much as possible on the strategy of the “small war”.

So maybe we are finally approaching the end game now.

I hope you’re right.

I’m with Trump on this:

“I want everybody to stop dying. They’re dying. Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying,” Trump said at CNN’s town hall moderated by “CNN This Morning” anchor Kaitlan Collins.

…he doesn’t “think in terms of winning and losing.”

“I think in terms of getting it settled so we stop killing all these people,” he said.

Sorry about that.

https://rusi.org/explore-our-research/publications/special-resources/meatgrinder-russian-tactics-second-year-its-invasion-ukraine

This has been a theme in Ukrainian commentary for months though, especially around Bakhmut, that the new Russian tactic was to move mortars up to consolidate captured positions. Not a disparagement of Russian capabilities. The RUSI report however puts it in context.
