The White House on Monday threatened to veto a Republican-led bill in the House that would block the Biden administration’s student loan forgiveness program.

In a Statement of Administration Policy, the White House expressed its concerns with a House resolution to disapprove of the student loan forgiveness plan, which provides up to $20,000 in relief for millions of eligible student loan borrowers.

“This resolution is an unprecedented attempt to undercut our historic economic recovery and would deprive more than 40 million hard-working Americans of much-needed student debt relief,” the administration said in a statement, adding that President Biden would veto the measure if it came to his desk.

Hey, give Joe a break. He is just trying to make sure the votes he bought with the first go around does’t get lost for the 2024 election.

First...The government shouldn't be in the student loan business....period!

2nd...it's in the courts and there should be a resolution within a couple months. Until then...let it rest.

3rd....It's a huge amount

4th What about the suckers that paid all their loans...like my three children. And we're talking Syracuse and Clarkson.

It's not fair...and amounts to just another "Vote Dem".

Didn't Obummer threaten raise the debt ceiling unilaterally because the mean Republicans wouldn't play nice? The scheme consisted of the Treasury Department, who has the power to issue coins, minting a few Trillion Dollar coins so that treasury could keep spending like drunken sailors.

Yup, there's a Wiki article on the scheme:

It’s unconstitutional already. It shouldn’t need to be blocked by Congress.

"40 million hard-working Americans"

Every single word of this phrase (except that some of the much-fewer-than-40-million involved are actually Americans) is a fallacy.

White House threatens to veto GOP measure blocking student loan debt relief program

Let him

Americans will see how unfair this proposal is and he will lose on the issue.

Bill Krinton tried that crap with Welfare Reform.

America and now former welfare recipients won.

We let Krinton claim to have shaped the conversation.

But there was no bill to begin with. It’s unconstitutional. I thought a federal court stopped the program.

We only lose when this is in front of us. The key word is student. Think young/innocence. Truth is they’re making good money now thanks to the welder who didn’t go to college. Do the voters know that?

Throw them a bone. Confine it to engineering and science GRADUATES. One-up them and make it $30k. Expose what they waste their time on in gender studies.

What the GOP needs to do is desolve the FBI. Then, Americans can take back their government without a bunch of phony booschitt and allegations.

I missed the point where in the Constitution it says the diaper dandy vetos house bills. I thought they had to go through both houses before he can veto them. At least that is what it was before the age of fascists.

If the GOP had any brains, they would approve it with two conditions: (1)A portion of it gets hung back on the universities, (2)The government must divest itself of the student loan business permanently in order to compensate the taxpayers for the covered portion.

The GOP could even up the portion to be forgiven under such conditions.

There needs to be an end of the government guaranteeing student loans for unmarketable degrees. Getting them out of the business is a good start.
