And the AR-15 has no automatic capability.
Everybody knows that ar-15 owners grind down the sear as soon as they get home. Or, since a new round is chambered following firing a round, it’s automatic. And, of course, everybody knows that AR stands for automatic rifle.
Take your pick.
There was also an M-14 that was select-fire semi-auto or full-auto. Designated M14A1 IIRC. LOTS of recoil in full-auto mode. Only got to shoot one once in basic. Fort Knox Ky. 1969. Went to Fort Polk for AIT, no M14s, M16s only.
I was in the Army 4.5 years, Army Guard another 10 years, and at the end I switched to Air Guard.
In prep for deployment I “had to” qualify with an M16. No, that wasn’t a typo. An M16. No forward assist and chromed bolt carrier.
The Chair Force does stuff weird. All weapons are in a central arms room. Sounds dumb to my former army self.
When you go to the range, you are handed a weapon that is not assigned to you so the zero is shyte. When the zoomie armorer handed me the M16 I looked at him and said “No way! You’ve gotta be kidding me!” He looked at me with his stupid soy boy face and said “What do you mean?” I told him “This is an M16” “Yeah”, “No really an M16” “Yeah I know”
I told him “You don’t understand”
So I qualified Expert as usual. My reward for top score was a mag dump with this vintage M16 that obviously didn’t get the retarded 3 round burst trigger pack during one of it’s rebuilds.
The AF security forces weapons guy hands me a 30rd mag and starts telling me how to shoot full auto.
I dump the mag and get all 30 rounds on target. AF guy has amaze face.
We go back to the classroom/armory to clean weapons. I brought my own cleaning kit. Done in 15 minutes. AF guy sees my cleaning kit and says, “Wow dude, were you special forces in the Army?” “Nope” I say “I was a payroll clerk”.
No lie. I’m the only guy on the internet that admits to being a 73-C30 Finance clerk.
