Russia's military has adapted and is now a more formidable enemy for Ukraine, defense analysts say

Russia's military has been widely discredited and disparaged by the Western media since the start of its invasion of Ukraine, seen to have bungled the early phase of the war after suffering a series of setbacks and retreats.

But defense analysts at a top London-based military think tank have investigated Russia's tactical adaptations during the war and have noted that a more structured, coordinated and reactive armed force has emerged — and one that's particularly strong on the defensive.

As such, Russia's military now represents a much more formidable opponent for Ukraine as it prepares to launch a much-anticipated counteroffensive to reclaim occupied territory.

"As Ukraine prepares for offensive operations its armed forces face major tactical challenges," Jack Watling and Nick Reynolds, specialists in land warfare at the Royal United Services Institute, or RUSI, said in their latest report, entitled "Russian Tactics in the Second Year of its Invasion of Ukraine."

"The depth of [Russian] defences mean that Ukraine must generate serious combat power in order to penetrate the Russian lines, with the extent of Russian defensive fortifications across the front making bypassing them near-impossible," the report, published Friday, noted.

RUSI's Reynolds told CNBC that while Russia "put themselves in a very bad position at the start of last year," conducting what he described as massive strategic and operational blunders that deprived them of some of their best units and equipment, "since then, the Russian state and the Russian military have put themselves on more of a war footing and have been adapting."

"In particular, a lot of systems and the way they work together are working much better than they were last year. The fact that they're on the defensive now allows them to combine arms in a way that's a little bit easier than coordinating offensive operations."

Echoes of the Russian comeback in WWII.

The Ukraine has been losing this war for a number of reasons for many months. The propaganda denied it to keep the gift money and weapons flowing to the Ukraine.

Without a chance of winning, Biden doubled down and shoved more billions to the head quarters of his money laundry in the Ukraine, in the form of ‘foreign aid’ to support the war effort.

Now that the truth can’t be hidden, NOW they are starting to claim that suddenly Russians became competent and deadly. This has to be the most MSM manufactured war in history, for which the Ukraine is losing all its men and the United States is giving up billions of tax payer money, knowing the Ukraine cannot prevail.

It’s a historic event - unprecedented senseless loss of life and the theft of the American public’s money.

Echoes of the Russian comeback in WWII.

Also during the Napoleonic Wars. In Russian History, they always start off in wars terribly and take enormous casualties. Then they learn how to fight. The next generation, they forget how to fight so they do it all over again.

Yes, it’s very sad. Ukraine was never winning and there is only one outcome, yet everyone was so happy to fight to the last Ukrainian.

So the new Russian strategy is to send a lot of Russians to die in Ukraine? And this is different?

It’s a WWI-type stalemate - lots of dead soldiers for small territorial gains.

The only exception was WWI, where they did lose to Germany — and that is probably what made Hitler think they would be a pushover. The Russo-Japanese war too.

It's been mismatch from the start.

For God's sake, stop feeding Ukrainians into the meat grinder and end all of this.

At some point in the future the Russians will get their act together and then Ukraine will be in big trouble.

This will require intensive officer retraining and new weapons.

“stop feeding Ukrainians into the meat grinder”

My guess is the Russians lose soldiers at twice the rate of Ukraine.

Russia has three times the population but politically lacks Ukraine’s ability to draft soldiers since the Russian Federation is not in a fight for its existence.

LOLOL!!!! Russia was supposed take over Russia in a week. Ukraine was no match for Russia. (There was even a Freeper who talked of Russia being able to take over Germany by early Spring of 2022) Now Russia is a "formidable opponent" and that is a victory? Ukraine is not supposed to be a formidable, or even minimal, opponent of Russia.

RUSI expected Russia to employ a large amount of artillery fire to defend its units and “very capable” electronic warfare systems aimed at defeating UAVs, or drones.

These are already proving devastatingly effective, with Ukraine losing as many as 10,000 UAVs a month “due to the effectiveness of Russian Electronic Warfare and extensive use of navigational interference,” RUSI said.
***************************************************************************

They’ve also figured out how to negate the navigational capabilities of America’s HIMARS missiles. You’ll notice how the gloating over the successes of “Mister HIMARS” has largely vanished from the internet. Biden and his DemocRAT/Neocons crew have neutralized one of the important weapon systems in our arsenal by their involvement in this unnecessary and cruel war.

“Rome” suffered from internal rot. Sound familiar?

“In 324, after the Western and Eastern Roman Empires were reunited, the ancient city of Byzantium was selected to serve as the new capital of the Roman Empire, and the city was renamed Nova Roma, or “New Rome”, by Emperor Constantine the Great. On 11 May 330, it was renamed to Constantinople, and dedicated to Constantine. Constantinople is generally considered to be the center and the “cradle of Orthodox Christian civilization”. From the mid-5th century to the early 13th century, Constantinople was the largest and wealthiest city in Europe.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constantinople

“With the advent of the Ottoman Empire in 1299, the Byzantine Empire began to lose territories and the city began to lose population. By the early 15th century, the Byzantine Empire was reduced to just Constantinople and its environs, along with Morea in Greece, making it an enclave inside the Ottoman Empire. The city was finally besieged and conquered by the Ottoman Empire in 1453, remaining under its control until the early 20th century, after which it was renamed Istanbul under the Empire’s successor state, Turkey.”

“At some point in the future the Russians will get their act together...”

They have had 1100 years to get their act together, I doubt another year and a half in Ukraine will do it.

Russia held back until recently with the thermobarics. I don’t know why everyone cheerleads on the deaths. It’s crazy. This should of been over long ago, but instead the west had to cover its ass in Ukraine.

It's not a stalemate. Russia wanted to strip the Ukraine of its military capacity so it doesn't have to fight again in a few years. Russia hunkered down and let the Ukrainians come to them in a war of attrition. It worked. Russia lost many, and has many more in reserve. The Ukraine lost most of the trained troops NATO cultivated for this proxy  war and now  has insufficient men to create brigades for any sort of fighting. Not a stalemate - the Ukraine cannot win, and Russia can.
