A top central banker has warned of the damage the rush to ‘Net-Zero’ risks doing to Europe’s economy, and illustrates the point by noting erasing Europe’s built heritage would be necessary to meet extreme green demands.
Among comments by Paolo Angelini, deputy governor at the Bank of Italy about European Net Zero targets which, in his opinion, risk doing more harm than good, the central banker articulated what level of change would actually be needed from Europeans to meet those demands.
While saying pushing Europe to net zero risks destabilising the continent’s economy and undermining Europe’s ability to lead on green issues globally, the top economist made his point by revealing he’d asked his team at the Bank of Italy what would be necessary just to make the single institution that he leads compliant.

An unusual twofer ping.
Erasing history. Coupled with people’s general lack of historical knowledge and aversion to the sublime, this is the road to creating more self-centered “modern” men. This is by design. Modern architecture is downright ugly.
Start by demolishing their central, bank building.
...but not quite as much as they hate themselves.
What in the world is that?!
Weird but interesting place. Stained glass - just like Notre Dame! OK, maybe not...
“Modern architecture is downright ugly.”
You know who else says this, vociferously? Ready for it? King Charles III. That’s right, the U.K.’s new King Charles. He hates modern architecture and has previously campaigned against it. At least in this arena I’m cheering on the King of England and totally agree with him, so he’s not all bad as a royal, is he.
One building that I particularly hate (besides most postwar architecture in general) is the Caltrans headquarters in LA.
“One building that I particularly hate (besides most postwar architecture in general) is the Caltrans headquarters in LA.”
Yikes. That’s one plumb ugly building. The architect should live in infamy.
I actually like it. It looks like one of those old punch cards.
