The greatest victory in sports history came when Muhammad Ali knocked out George Foreman to win back the world heavyweight championship boxing title in 1974.
Foreman duly unloaded his relentless bombs on Ali, who spent most of the time leaning on the ropes, soaking up the fearsomely powerful assault.
Nobody could understand this apparently suicidal rope-a-dope strategy other than Ali himself, who had deliberately planned it to exhaust his opponent.
The Greatest didn’t win because he was the stronger man.
He won because he had the smarter tactics, and the courage to execute them.
Donald Trump is the political equivalent of George Foreman — a giant, bruising brawler who destroys opponents with brute force.
But he’s about to face his own Rumble in the Jungle-style fight with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and DeSantis is showing every sign of being the opponent Trump fears most: one who can soak up his punches and knock him out.

Unfortunately Trump has an inexhaustible supply of tweets. The analogy doesn’t work. But I hope, if DeSantis decides to “come out swinging”, he swings at Biden for a change. dittos for Trump btw.
LOL Piers Morgan the soothsayer speaks. If De Santos wants to lean back on the ropes and let Trump land haymakers his chances of ever being POTIS is dead.
I had such high hopes for him next go around but he stepped in the bog and the swamp took him. Such potential sounded by bog politics.
Forget it Piers. Its over.
I agree. But there are so many here on Free Republic, who claim to hate DeSantis, and claim they would never vote for him, not even in a future election where Trump isn’t involved.
I’m trying to figure out the mindset of hate for a successful conservative governor.
Wishful thinking on the part of the British gun grabber.
Because he’s done an excellent job as governor. It’s just not his time to run for presidrnt.
DeSantis polled strongest before it became clear that he was going to run.
Every since then, he has been losing ground.
He’s like Hillary.
Polls strongest on Day One of the campaign and loses ground every day after.
Agreed. DeSantis had a lane and an opportunity. He pissed it down his leg.
All Trump has to do is talk about how DeSantis has refused to secure Florida’s elections, and Florida’s budgets since DeSantis became gov.
Who are the FReepers that hate DeSantis? I'm talking genuine, irrational hatred of him. Not his policies or the fact that he's a Bush stooge. Names and posts, please.
and claim they would never vote for him, not even in a future election where Trump isn’t involved
Maybe signing anti-1st Amendment legislation on foreign soil was the deal-breaker. I don't know?
I’m trying to figure out the mindset of hate for a successful conservative governor.
Again, what "hate" are you referring to?
We think he's a Bush/Ryan stooge backed by Koch and Murdoch.
I personally think he's too friendly with you know who. That Middle Eastern country we give billions of dollars to every year and has people all throughout the Biden cabinet.
He lied when he said he was going to focus on his 2nd term.
Never attacked him personally, his family, or his good job as FL Governor.
Stop insinuating s--t.
He is too cozy with the GOPe, and 100% of the time, we get the short end of the stick. That’s why.
I am beginning to think his Disney fight was just a chess move to give him political cover to stab us in the back with the rest of the GOP agenda.
And he still doesn’t call 2020 stolen.
As we have observed when DeSantis waffled on Ukraine that was the end. It was a fatal error and I do not think he even knows it.
As has been stated on this forum numerous times....Trump has the right enemies. DeSantis has the wrong friends.
This cheesy comparison to a great boxer is probably from Desantis' expanding circle of well paid establishment advisers and operatives.
After all the Murdoch/Ryan/PiersMorgan NY Post is on Team DeSantis.
He hasn't even announced yet! LOL, you people are so strange.
Yep. Sad thing is the Republicans and the RNC don’t want to win the White House. They are at each other’s throats, and instead of uniting y’all are slitting your own throats making it extremely easily for the vegetable to win another term. By the time the primaries roll by, Trump and DeSantis will hurt their chances by their bickering. No unity-no unity the knell blows in the republican party. They don’t call it the stupid party for nothing.
Maybe, maybe not on that one but when Paul Ryan and Jeb! said they backed DeSantis it made Trump’s “Establishment Ron” shots land even harder and I’m not sure he can recover. DeSantis had the opportunity, which is sad.
Yes that created a pattern that gave the impression that Ron was the GOPe’s boy. That is poison to the base.
That’s a great analogy.
“They are at each other’s throats, and instead of uniting y’all are slitting your own throats making it extremely easily for the vegetable to win another term.”
