WASHINGTON, May 17 (Reuters) - Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis will officially enter the 2024 U.S. presidential race next week, according to two sources familiar with the decision, immediately becoming Donald Trump's biggest rival for the Republican nomination and shaking up a contest that largely has been one-sided.
DeSantis will likely file paperwork declaring his candidacy on May 25 to coincide with a donor meeting in Miami, with a more formal launch the week of May 29, according to a source.
The invitation for the May 25 event stated that donors would be put to “work,” an apparent allusion to raising money for DeSantis, according to a source familiar with the event.

Does he have a better chance of winning the general election than Trump? In other words, which one will take the need for ballot harvesting seriously in states that have legalized it and will put together the most effective ballot harvesting mechanisms? I think my estimation of who can do this better will decide my primary vote.

I doubt it. Most people polled basically knew he was gonna announce.
The important thing to remember here - we are not locked into only one candidate. There are a number of things that could happen to derail the Trump Train as it rolls on to 2024.
And unless you goofy only Trumpers want Nikki, Pence, or some other RINO as your fallback; then be glad DeSantis is a great viable Plan B.

It’s been reported numerous times Ron DeSantis was going to enter the race in May because that is when the Florida state legislation finishes its legislative session, and still we had people right on this politically-attuned website being like “durr, what’s the holdup, why hasn’t he announced yet???”
Frankly, I welcome Ron. He is brilliant, and competition never hurts.
