Stop Enabling Bloodshed in Ukraine
The American Conservative ^ | 05/11/2023 | Doug Bandow

Posted on 05/12/2023 4:55:42 PM PDT by Az Joe

The Russo-Ukraine war continues. A presumed Ukrainian drone attack on the Kremlin has further inflamed the contest’s rhetoric if not combat. The conflict’s costs are horrendous and borne primarily by Ukrainians, since Ukraine is the main battlefield.

No end to the fighting is in sight. Russia’s offensive, such as it was, fizzled badly, unless the Kremlin has secretly assembled a vast hidden army soon to be loosed. Western assessments of Kiev’s planned riposte expect little more: One warns that Ukraine’s effort could “fall ‘well short’ of Kyiv’s original goals.” With manpower running short and allied arms stocks dangerously low, Ukraine appears unlikely to defeat Russia.

Nevertheless, a large kettle of American war hawks remains determined on Ukrainian victory. While that would be emotionally satisfying to many—Moscow began the war, after all, though feckless and reckless allied policy played a major contributory role—such a policy would endanger the American people, who should be Washington’s primary responsibility.

A presumed Ukrainian drone attack

Stopped reading right there.

But, I'll comment.

Presumed. IOW, you don't know.

If you don't know what you're talking about, stop right there and don't confuse yourself even more.

No one dime for the Republicans except for the handful in the House that actually want the war to stop.

No money for GOP committee’s etc. etc.

Russia for its whole history has been the world’s leading force fighting against liberty and democracy. The Russians have always believed the only correct order is a tyrant controlling a nation of peasants.

This is our best chance in a century to eradicate that belief system and the nation that has enforced it.

Reduce Muscovy to its natural historic borders and that threat is removed forever.

It is in my view idiotic to say or think “the war will stop” merely by the west halting arms deliveries to Ukraine. That will not “stop” the war. It would continue until all of Ukraine was further destroyed (because Ukraine will fight Russia with or without us) and placed 100% under Putin’s military control. That, not “peace” would be the result of stopping western arms to Ukraine.

Captures it perfectly. Only needs land burning in the distance, representing America falling apart while all this is going on.

People die and war profiteers get rich because keeping one corrupt government is important over having a different corrupt government. Certainly worth people over here far from the battle belligerently telling the peasants to die as a way of feeling virtuous.

EXCERPT:

Supporting the war until the Zelensky government retakes territory lost not only last year but in 2014, risks Ukrainian exhaustion and deadlock or defeat. Kiev is entitled to decide how long it wants to fight, as the U.S. insists. But Washington should not encourage, let alone empower, Ukraine to fruitlessly battle on, no matter how valiantly. Prolonging the war risks expansion and escalation involving the U.S.

And the other side of the coin; give Russia an inch and they will attempt to take all of Europe.

Reward Putin's invasion of Ukraine with annexed territory? That will teach China not to invade Taiwan.

“Ukraine’s survival is Taiwan’s survival. Ukraine’s success is Taiwan’s success,” “Our futures are closely linked.”

“Support for Ukraine is relevant to us because, first of all, ultimately it helps to deter. It imposes costs on the aggressor,” Hsiao said. “International support for Ukraine is also essential in affirming the credibility and reliability of the United States and your allies.” Taiwan’s representative in Washington, Bi-khim Hsiao

Crazy mom or some fast dude might show up and post 27 comments in a row with canned links. Only because anything less than 20 will cause Russia to win.

Russia for its whole history has been the world’s leading force fighting against liberty and democracy.

Like when they defeated the democracies of Napolean and Hitler!

Now Russia is saving Europe from itself a third time. Russians don't do this because they love Europe, but rather as a natural response to the latest scourge from Europe. This time - the totalitarian and freedom-abolishing globalists.
