[TX Republican] House Speaker Phelan Sides With Democrats, Kills Major Border Security Legislation

With the Biden administration preparing to end Title 42 on Thursday, and Texas bracing for the coming onslaught, several border security measures were approved in a meeting of the Texas House that lasted until nearly 2 a.m.

The centerpiece bill, however, was defeated after House Speaker Dade Phelan sustained a point of order on the bill, sending it back to committee past the deadline for bills to be considered.

“This kind of fiasco is emblematic of his leadership in the House. Instead of passing the most important border security bill in decades, he let it die on a spurious interpretation of the bill’s key provisions,” Chris Russo, president of Texans for Strong Borders, told Texas Scorecard.

House Bill 20 by State Rep. Matt Schaefer (R–Tyler) would have created a Border Protection Unit to operate under the authority of the Texas Department of Public Safety. The BPU would be responsible for the construction and maintenance of a physical barrier wall. It would include commissioned and noncommissioned officers in accordance with the needs of the BPU.

Although Texans continue to elect Republican majorities in the Texas House, the body is effectively controlled by a coalition of RINOs and Democrats. This coalition has joined together to continually elect RINO speakers of the Texas House since 2008. In turn, the speakers appoint mostly RINOs and Democrats to head committees effectively preventing Republican priorities from being enacted. This is another example.

Same crap going on in Ohio—RINOs and Rats against conservative republicans in the statehouse. We really do need a new party to the right of the GOP. Let them and the rats fight it out for the left vote while giving the Right a reliable option. Let the GOP own the mushy “no labels” middle.

Maybe a coalition of billionaires could co-opt the Constitution Party and make it into something serious, starting from the ground up, building an effective organization, well funded, and attracting serious candidates beginning with the school boards and DA offices— what Soros has done for the Left.

Since the GOP appears to be beyond redemption, this may be America’s only chance.

Yeah the rats and the Rino’s in the house have hobbled Texas for years. They formed a lock tight block that has really caused a lot of damage in Texas.
