Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law Thursday that exempts records related to his travel from the state's robust public disclosure law.
Under the new law, law enforcement agencies would be barred from sharing any records related to the governor's security and travel, as well as "for persons for whom such services are requested by the governor." The expansive language could allow the DeSantis administration to keep secret trips arranged by the governor's office even when he wasn't involved.
The law comes on the heels of the governor's recent trips to key primary states and Israel, and critics have slammed the legislation as an attempt to keep damaging information about DeSantis' travel from getting out just as he is expected to announce a campaign for president.
However, Republicans said the measure was necessary to protect DeSantis and prevent details about his travel habits and security detail from falling into the hands of people who might be plotting an attack on the governor. Asked about the measure last week, DeSantis said it wasn't his idea.

Read the bill. You will (if you care to) find out that the MSM is completely misrepresenting the actual language of the bill(it’s an amendment to existing statute).
WTH?
I thought FLA was the “Sunshine” State.
Why is the Meatball hiding where he travels and who he meets with.
Not good.
I was pretty certain that this was the case.
Might the usuals to chime in with usual venom, however?
That we won’t know until the governor’s office starts using this law to deny records requests.
Your trust in the current and future politicians is noted, just not shared.
I just read the bill.
If this is such a great idea, why the sunset provision?
Notice the usual suspects are clinging to pro-conservative sites like CNN.
Maybe he spent too much money on his “book tour”
Why would I need to do that?
CNN's headline tells me everything I need to know.
Like when desantis was suppose to be giving a talk for Lee Zeldin, and pulled out of the commitment after he had a meeting with a rich donor before the speech.
A rich donor, that prefered and was supporting Hochul.
The excuse? desantis had to attend the funeral of a law enforcement officer....
The next day.
I stand corrected. I had one of those silly moments my brain indulges in so often.
They just might.
“GO BY THE WRITTEN.” The amendment is very specific about whose records (only law enforcement) and what they pertain to. For that information see the amended statute. Any requests (unless otherwise exempt in other statute such as personal information on law enforcement officers) for public disclosure would still come under the Sunshine laws. So a serious legal challenge would be made if that was denied. And the state or other government agency would lose.
In my opinion it is the height of naïveté to assume these changes are being made to enhance security of the individuals involved. It will be used to deny providing information on when and where taxpayers are put on the hook for these people’s travel.
Frankly, I prefer to politicians live in fear of the constituents, than part of another caste, above and beyond letting the hoi polloi know what they’re up to.
So you believe, without verification, whatever CNN puts out.
Yikes.
I do agree with one thing. A fearful politician makes for freer population. But not all fear is equal.
The Meatball can have a Press Conference anytime and correct CNN’s
Characterization of the Bill. Still waiting to hear what HE SAYS about the bill.
