Disney CEO Bob Iger says more price hikes coming to streaming services amid profitability push

Disney (DIS) CEO Bob Iger revealed that more price hikes will be coming to the company's streaming services.

"The pricing changes we've already implemented have proven successful, and we plan to set a higher price [for] our ad-free tier later this year to better reflect the value of our content offerings," Iger said during Wednesday's quarterly earnings call.

Disney currently offers ad-free options for Hulu and Disney+.

He added the company will "continue optimizing our pricing model to reward loyalty and reduce churn, to increase subscriber revenue for the premium ad-free tier and drive growth of subscribers who opt for the lower cost ad-supported option."

The company raised prices for Disney+ and introduced an ad-supported tier in Dec. 2022. That followed price increases for Hulu and ESPN+ earlier in the year.

The Disney+ price hikes led to a dip in subscriber growth in the company's fiscal second quarter, with the media giant reporting a loss of 4 million Disney+ subscribers, missing Wall Street consensus estimates.

Disney should consider cutting back on the wokeness before raising prices.

Trying to offset subscriber losses by sticking it to those are ok with Disney’s grooming operation

I’ve never subscribed to a streaming service, aside from Amazon Prime. And that’s only so that I can get free shipping.

Prime has some good content, as does HULU. I use ESPN+ for more golf :)

I expected the steaming companies to punish people who subscribe to one for a month or two, binge watch everything they have to offer and then move onto the next one. In a year or two you can make the whole cycle and see what is newly binge worthy.

I said they would have a greater price for monthly subs versus paying for a year, trickle out new shows one episode per week and start limiting the back catalog so you can't count on old shows being around for long. Maybe even open up the back catalog on a rotating basis so, for example, Breaking Bad season one is showing now with season 2 in June and 3 in July. You have to subscribe for months to watch the whole show rather than only needing a single month.

Yea, they raised the price of my annual membership just a few months ago...

Raise it again and I’m done.

If they up the price. I will drop it. I think the Disney magical shine is gone and upping the price will get a lot of individuals to rethink having the service. I watch only 1-2 hours a week. I consume a lot of video content from other places.hbo amazon prime and Netflix have a lot of content.

At what point do consumers say “screw this”? a very large part of those now on streaming services, did so to “cut the cable” with the over-priced, under-performing legacy cable and satellite providers.

But now - there are only a handful of ways to get all your preferred networks and programming - and most of those are rapidly approaching a cost level that exceeds legacy providers.

But lets go a step farther - Disney (aka Disney+) would have died already, if they didn’t have a monopoly on a handful of highly-loved franchises. Add in their radical woke games... and they DESERVE to die in a financial trainwreck.

SIMPLE: Just don’t patronize Disney. Period. You’re not going to starve or die without their channel.

I think consumers are saying “screw this” already. Disney has been dropping in stock price and losing viewers over the past two years.

Their stock closed today at $92.34 which was down $8.80 per share (down 8.7%) and has dropped another two cents in after hours trading.

Two and a half years ago Disney was a $180.00 per share stock. A year ago, it was $126.48. This shows a steady decline in share price. Disney hasn’t paid a dividend in three years.

from 12 billion in income in 2018 to 3 billion in 2022. That’s not good growth.

dump Disney+. Buy the old DVDs and pass them around.

Any patriotic, Christian, heterosexual person that takes his family or kids to Disneyland is funding people and organizations that HATE you.

They despise the public they serve and wish nothing more that to take your money, groom your children and destroy any symbol of goodness and family that is sacred.

Disney is sh#t. So if you don’t care.... roll your kids around in Disney, buy Disney, go spend your hard earned dollars on Disney.... cause all you’re buying is SH#T.

The only way Disney will turn things around is reverse course. And they will not do that. The narrative is more important than money but they will take people’s money as long as they will continue to send it to them. All their new movies are flops because normal parents will not their children to see an GIBLET indoctrination movie.

Who would have thought you’d ever have to check a Disney movie to see if it is suitable for children?!!!!

I feel that watching a tv show that has a man and a woman kissing is an oddity these days. Heterosexual relationships are now depicted as being interracial all the time and every show has its homosexual couples. It is hard to watch any tv show that is newer than 10 years old.
