R1S is a premium SUV in the line of electric cars from Rivian. It is a 7-seater EV with 3 rows and tons of cutting-edge features. Though it is a great car, it isn’t immune to certain problems. It has been recalled by NHTSA National Highway Traffic Safety Administration twice in a short span. The issues weren’t that serious, but they were causing problems nonetheless.
This blog will focus on the 6 most common problems with Rivian R1S. Why are car owners facing these problems, and what can you do to solve them?

The biggest problem is that they are Electric Vehicles, you would think that would have made the top of the list?
Sometimes some people just need bigger money pits than their neighbors.
That means she dare not venture more than. 100 miles from home....
My SUV is good for 600 miles plus per fill up....and, there will be a gas station at the end of that stretch that allows me to be back on the road in 10 minutes.
So she is actually happy with it?
Some people just want to have the latest thing.
And/or they believe climate change is real.
It’s hard to believe that an EV would have loud cabin noise. They must have a lousy engineering team.
These six issues seem rather small and insignificant.
Compare these issues with a 70’s Chevette, Pinto or Maverick.
There have to be at least five or these in my smallish town.
For good or bad it’s an interesting truck.
It appears the belief in climate change is driving a lot of this type of thing.
As far as charging on the road, it depends. If my wife is with me then the EV is conducive because she wants to stop every 200 miles or so anyway to stretch her legs for 10-15 minutes -- which is how long it takes the EV to charge at most fast chargers. (At home, who cares if it takes 4 hours to charge since I'm sleeping anyway?) But if my wife is not with me, which means me stopping ever 350-400 miles, then I drive the ICE pickup. Plus we take the ICE pickup on trips that have few chargers or require a pickup for pickup chores.
Basically, if I wasn't married and every now and then needed two cars anyway, I wouldn't have gotten an EV. But since I need two cars anyway, by having one of them an EV and one an ICE we have two cars to choose from for whatever the day's needs are. And even with that, I still probably wouldn't have gotten an EV if I wasn't also trying to be mostly energy independent with our home. Solar provides 80% of the power we need for our home, including charging our EV. Thus, when the Dims' stupid energy policies raise energy prices, it harms us only 20% financially with our home costs and our local driving.
Since this article is about Rivian, an EV pickup, I have real problems seeing that work well. Loading down a pickup with cargo in the back or towing (you know, using it for the reasons you bought the pickup to begin with) drastically reduces the range. Even though an EV car works well for us (as long as we have an ICE car too for the times an EV won't cut it), I can't imagine being happy with an EV pickup.
The Rivian is a much a truck as the El Camino was. It looks silly and non-serious.

Climate’s been changing, cyclically, for thousands of years.
But “fatal” anthropomorphic CC is a cooked-up load of crap designed to enslave humanity to the global elite. THAT’s the issue. 😏
I don't at all understand the push for large EV pickups. If someone is in the market for an EV because they believe it saves the world or whatever, why spend extra for a large pickup that requires more time to charge the larger battery (or less range because it's a normal size EV battery powering a large truck)? The best I can figure is that it's catering to the greenie-save-the-world-with-EV's consumers who also want to feel like they're big boys who can take care of business with a fake manly looking truck.
From an EV throughput perspective (i.e. miles/kWh, charging speed and wait time, range), the large EV pickups are horrible. Especially if you actually use them like a truck and haul a heavy load (greatly reducing range).
When one is paying $79,000+ for the vehicle PLUS tax and loan fees??? Are you kidding me? If I were to pay that much for a vehicle, it better be near perfect. Arrghh...you are killin' me.
Loose steering knuckle is serious to me.
Might lock up and you can’t turn.
The weight of the vehicle would result in road noise
Our bridges aren’t built for the weight of electric vehicles either. Will also degrade our roads much more quickly. A lot of the road beds weren’t compacted correctly (two passes with a roller is about 1/10th of what is needed). When you see valleys in the roads where the tires roll, the road bed is compacting. They’ll be making major repairs much more frequently with electric.
Reasonable response and obviously not a Rivian employee.
I hear it can carry more than a Ford Model A pickup, and out-accelerate a Packard too.
How about comparing it to vehicles made in this century?
She seems to be, but, she’s a liberal, so I don’t expect reality or practicality to impact her view.
The hard part bout building an electric car isn't the electric part, it's the car part. It's build quality that's hard to get right and has to be earned with sweat equity.
Almost every Tesla I've ever seen up close had body panel gaps that were about as uniform as as those on a fiberglass kit car with a VW chassis underneath.
And build problems Teslas overall probably aren't any more numerous than other manufacturers, it's just that Teslas are so chockablock with bleeding edge technology that the failure of any one element of that technology is spectacularly obvious. Like roofs that fly off while you're driving down the expressway. Autopilot that runs over kids. Batteries that explode with no provocation and burn for days at 3000°F. And door handles that don't work if the car is underwater or on fire.
We saw a Rivian truck out on the highway a couple weeks ago. It was a cute vehicle but I’d hate to get a dead battery out in the middle of Habersham county GA. 😏
Build quality is easy to get right. The only reason rivion or tesla have these issues is because they have no experience building cars.
The hard part about building an electric car is building something practical with range and quick refuelability. Doesn’t matter how good or reliable your electric motor is, if you need three tons of batteries to give it over 300 mile range, you’re gonna have some issues. If every fillup takes an hour or more, the car’s not gonna do that great. If every ten years you need to replace a major component that costs over half the value of the car, it’ll have problems.
The issues aren’t in the build, it’s in the practicality of the tech. Just not completely there yet.
