SALLISAW, Okla. — A Sallisaw police captain crashed into a pursuit suspect head-on, preventing him from getting near a crowded festival on Saturday.
Police were following the driver when he got near a crowded area where children were attending the Diamond Daze Festival, according to a City of Sallisaw social media post.
Sallisaw Police Captain John Weber used his patrol vehicle to crash into the driver, stopping the pursuit from getting any closer to the event.
What should happen is to dispatch them quickly and send them home in body bags.
We have plenty of people. We don't need any like these.
Kudos to the police for doing their job and then a whole lot more. They probably saved a bunch of people. All of downtown was blocked off to traffic and full of people for the annual Spring Festival.
Uneven wording, but I believe the article is saying a driver had the apparent intention of crashing his car into a group of pedestrians gathered at a festival. The police recognized that intent and were in pursuit of this driver.
The police were able to purposely collide with the driver, stopping the vehicle from moving, thus protecting the group of pedestrians he had targeted.
Every outdoor festival (here lately) seems to attract a certain amount of Kooks with ill intent.
I don’t know how violent that crash was, but I’d say that was above and beyond! Salute to Captain Weber.
Sorry but no. They were just another bunch of drug thugs fleeing pursuit but they would have plowed into the crowd at the festival.
i have seen these sort of things on ‘police pursuit’ on youtube, where an officer has to meet the pursued head on stop them.
Thanks to the officer who performed this stop.
I have been through Sallisaw on the highway a number of times, without fail theres always panhandlers at the exit with the Mc Donalds by the big cemetery. We watched one of them work his way through McDs and the parking lot, hitting people up for money, get into his car overstuffed with probably his lifes possesions, and drive across the street to the casino, where he parked and walked on in.
Absolute hero.
Like the Capt said, it was time to go to work. Warriors both.
