Cities versus suburbs nearly always ends badly.

The origin of the growth of suburbs was to get away from the problems of the cities. Especially the dramatic Detroit “White Flight” which was present in some degree in most cities.
The triggers for many were the events in the big cities in 1943 and 1967, leading thousands to move out to the growing new suburbs.

Issue is that suburbs outside of NYC are not growing rapidly and can’t due to zoning restrictions. NYC has the deciding political power in NY State.
