Last Friday, an HK MP5 machine gun was stolen from LoneStar Handgun, a shooting range in Bexar (that’s pronounced “bear,” like the furry animal that poops in the woods and flies space ships with Han Solo in Star Wars) County, Texas. According to the KENS5 news video below, “the [shooting range] owner fears it could end up in the wrong hands.” Um, yes, I think that ship has sailed with the person who knowingly stole the gun when the range employee’s back was turned.
The female shooting range customer rented a handgun, did a little shooting, then came back to the counter and asked to rent the MP5. She then apparently left with it.

Yeah, Chewbacca wasn’t a bear.
I’ve always wanted a MP5. Just sayin. Now, I’m off to peruse Craigslist.
If you are going to steal a gun, stealing an HK MP5 is a pretty sweet gun to steal, especially if it’s full auto.
There was a gun range in my neck of the woods that rented a handgun to someone who walked right out the door with it and shot his ex-girlfriend a few hours later.
Absolutely horrible tragedy, and expensive for the gun range’s insurance company.
But they’re still in business. They have implemented much tighter rental procedures though. Before they would hold your driver’s license while you were shooting the rental. The guy who walked out didn’t bother trying to retrieve his license.
Now the rental gun is delivered to the R.O. who then delivers it to you in your lane, and you’re not allowed to leave your lane until the R.O. gets the rental back.
She probably just accidentally tucked it into her purse as she rushed off to a nearby sale.
There might be some usable forensic evidence thereabouts, especially if she rented a pistol first.
I’ve never been to a range that did not check id’s strictly, and indoor pistol ranges typically hold your drivers license if you are “renting” a firearm. Unacceptable for the range in the story to be this incompetent.
Range I used to work for rented MGs and mp5 was an option. Signed waiver, I.D., and an employee had to accompany the renter while it was checked out. we did not let those out of our sight. Fun and easy to shoot.
My range keeps every shooter's ID behind the counter up front until you are finished shooting. This is extreme negligence.
Better order a pallet of ammo from ammo.com, and have enough mags to fill-up.
Good news, she was arrested today:
The article is incomplete, and leds to jumps to conclusions.
They did check and hold onto her driver’s license It was fake, and she left it behind when she stole the gun.
Yep, more of those Amish lads up to it again.
OK - that makes a lot more sense. Thanks.
I lost all my weapons in multiple boating accidents. Just saying.
