Russia staging protests (in European nations) for anti-Ukraine propaganda — report

According to research by several media outlets, Russian secret services are infiltrating or staging demonstrations in major western European cities to create anti-Ukraine sentiment or hamper Sweden's bid to join NATO.Russian secret services have been staging or infiltrating demonstrations in major cities in Europe for propaganda purposes, several news outlets reported on Sunday.

The joint research by the Süddeutsche Zeitung, German broadcasters NDR and WDR, French paper Le Monde, Swedish paper Expressen and the Scandinavian broadcasters DR (Denmark), NRK (Norway) and SVT (Sweden) is based on leaked strategy papers that are said to have come from the Kremlin's security apparatus.

The documents were leaked to the Dossier Center, a research organization run by the Kremlin critic Mikhail Khodorkovsky. Their authenticity cannot be verified, but the links and information given there actually lead to demonstrations that took place as described.

The aim of the staged demonstrations is, among other things, to create anti-Ukraine sentiment or to make Sweden's NATO accession more difficult, the news outlets reported.

Fake anti-Turkish protests in European cities

According to the strategy papers, Moscow recommends for small groups of Russian agents to simulate fake protests in major European cities.

The goal, according to the reports, is to generate propaganda material for internet platforms. The Russian strategy paper lists several cities to target -- including Paris, The Hague, Brussels and Frankfurt.

Photos of the fake demonstrators have circulated on social media, appearing to give the impression of widespread anti-Ukraine sentiment in western European countries, the outlets reported.

The journalists were able to trace the origin of some of the content back to three social media accounts that are controlled from the Russian city of St. Petersburg.

“...have been staging or infiltrating demonstrations in major cities...”

Because the honest CIA/FBI would never do such a thing (see Jan 6). /spit

You idiot neocons run halfway across the world looking for 'mischief' when the mischief you should be concerned with stands ready to kick in your front door. No people on this planet are more pathetic than you neocons.

Perhaps people in those nations are staging those protests without Russia Russia Russia.

Obviously patience and support is waning.

Perhaps Vicki Nuland or Samantha Power are staging them.
Oh that is right, they stage massive protests and color revolutions for the US, not Russia.

“You idiot neocons run halfway across the world looking for ‘mischief’”

When I was in the Navy, I was tasked (SIGINT) with looking for Soviet ‘mischief’.

Perhaps this was in response to the Pearl Harbor ‘mischief’ of 1941?

Soviets don't exist. This isn't 1941. This isn't 1980. The mischief you should be looking for stares you right in the face every single day in 2023. The color revolution you should be concerned with is 'American'. This one is coming for you and the rest of US and it ain't Russian.

Soviets don't exist.

Oh yeah?

Putin’s Russia summons Stalin from the grave as a wartime ally

When at war, one overwhelms the enemy with everything one has at his/her disposal.

Soviets do exist. That is why the 23-year dictator and KGB boy still admires Stalin. The Russians renamed Ukraine’s Liberty Plaza after Lenin. The Russian forces raise the hammer and sickle flags over conquered mill towns. You neo-Bolsheviks simply attempt to deny reality while the Russians forcefully move populations around just like in Stalin’s time.

They are also inciting their pet environmentalists to agitate against LNG and nukes in Spain. And elsewhere it seems.

As they did in the US vs all sorts of gas and petroleum projects, including the Keystone pipeline. Those environmentalsts are Russian assets, in the old USSR “useful idiots” style.

That’s been ongoing for a while.

Color revolutions. With the aim of fundamental transformation. When one side does it, it is ethical. When another side does it, it is not. All's fair in love and war, as they say....

I suggest there are more than two sides, and all the sides which cluster together to grow government reach and power are quasi-allies (akin to the von Ribbentrop game) and changeable (as in John Kerry's quip, "I was for it before I was against it").

The Soviet institutional structures still exist.

That’s why Russia has been fomenting agitation in Europe and the US for a couple of decades, to serve its interests. Notably through the old “agents of influence” thing, especially in the case of enviro activist organisations. The Keystone pipeline was a case in point.

“In 2014, former NATO secretary-general and prime minister of Denmark Anders Fogh Rasmussen described this phenomenon to The Guardian:

“I have met allies who can report that Russia, as part of their sophisticated information and disinformation operations, engaged actively with so-called non-governmental organisations – environmental organisations working against shale gas – to maintain European dependence on imported Russian gas.”

--- "The Soviet institutional structures still exist."

I think this a very apt statement. They -- soviet, or councils -- exist in Russia, China, the EU Commission and its agencies, the Biden administration in the US (which of course canceled the Keystone pipeline you mention), and of course at the United Nations. Oh, yeah, also at the World Health Organization. I am sure the list is longer than this, because "soviet" or councils operate to the detriment of liberty in so many places and by so many avenues.

Let’s see. Acceptable protesters are liberals and liberals like Ukraine for now. So I wonder how this will work.
