Ron DeSantis Breaks Silence on Tucker Carlson Firing After Criticism
Newspeak ^ | May 6, 2023 | Thomas Kika

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis broke his silence on Friday about the firing of Fox News personality Tucker Carlson.

Carlson, who hosted the conservative news network's 8 p.m. ET program starting in 2016, was abruptly let go from the company on April 24 for reasons that have still not been officially explained. Subsequent reporting has suggested that a racist text message turned up during the discovery phase of Dominion Voting Systems' defamation lawsuit led officials at the company to push for his ouster, or that it was related to a lawsuit filed by a former staff member alleging that Carlson fostered a misogynistic workplace.

For a time, DeSantis' voice was not among those on the right discussing Carlson's firing. Given his prominent standing in the GOP and the fact that he is widely expected to be planning a 2024 presidential bid, his silence felt notable to many, with the likes of Donald Trump Jr. calling him out for a lack of "courage."

DeSantis finally broke his silence during a Newsmax interview on Friday, going out of his way to praise Carlson as "fantastic," suggesting that his ousting had less to do with the host himself and more to do with things happening behind the scenes at Fox News that he did not specify.

"Tucker Carlson is a fantastic individual," the Florida governor said. "I think the show was fantastic. I think it's terrible that he was fired. I think there's more to it. I don't really think that it was about Tucker, I think it was about some of this other stuff that's going on with Fox. But you know, he was someone who was willing to speak out and challenge the prevailing orthodoxies...I guarantee you, whatever he does [next], he's going to be successful."

Fox News has been leaning toward De Santis.

A response from DeSantis worthy of weather vane Willard. Wait until the hysteria has died down, then take whichever position is most advantageous to you politically- a real profile in courage.

I hear vague echos of Mitt Romney.

This is why republicans will eventually lose everything. Expectations of perfection and purity lead them to eat their own. He’s arguably the top fighter against wokeism in the country, but you want to shred him. Meanwhile the left never break ranks and accept incremental gains, and they’re winning.

So RDS took a few days, got the facts straight, and then commented.

That is both wise and presidential and the polar opposite of Mister Trump.

That Trump mentions "courage" is odd for someone so very afraid (we had more colorful descriptives in the service) to debate.

2020 election cheating happened.

Computer software was not involved, and pointing fingers at it was a strategy to keep attention off of how it was done. Our FR people jumping on the Dominion wagon helped that strategy.

Which was, of course, the mailing of ballots for vote-by-mail to addresses unverified to people unverified. When those ballots were filled out en masse and returned properly, the next bit of attention was to point at mailing.

Vote By Mail is not the issue. It merely opened the door to the issue. Unverified addresses and unverified people at them.

VBM permits the lazy to vote. Nothing in the Constitution forbids lazy people from finding a way to vote. There are lazy GOP voters too, who thus don’t vote unless the GOP embraces VBM and gets ballots from the lazy.

Never EVER forget that for about 20 years the GOP has been losing the popular vote. Cobbling together an electoral vote mechanism cycle after cycle is destined to fail more often than not.

He comes across as completely disingenuous and self-serving. Many rumors are going around about Carlson’s next move, the most recent of which is a potential partnership with Musk. I wonder if DeSantis got the news and decided he better play nice.

DeSantis didn’t want to say anything bad about Fox because the owners of it, the Murdoch family, along with RINO Paul Ryan who heads their Board of Directors and is an anti-Trumper and Lachlan Murdoch now running Fox who is a globalist with an ultra liberal wife, plus so many other liberals that are management at Fox, a foreign owned entity by the way (Rupert Murdoch is Australian and also owns Skye News in the U.K.), all back DeSantis and want Trump gone. A real profile in courage, Ron DeSantis.

For a time, DeSantis' voice was not among those on the right discussing Carlson's firing.

They sent DeSantis out of the country and far away right before they jettisoned Tucker.

Big DeSantis booster and Fox board member Paul Ryan likely knew what was about to happen.

DeSantis is in a tough spot. The ADL hates Tucker Carlson. Yet DeSantis has been currying favor with the ADL, which praised his hate crime bill.

DeSantis doesn't want to alienate either the ADL's Jewish supporters or Carlson's conservative/populist fans. But how to please both sides?

Few days???

It was a few weeks, and just exactly what were the facts he got straight that no one else knows or knew?

Just cite one for us.

And just a particular "purity" on every specific issue.
