Trump Hails New King, Queen, Says Biden 'Insulted' UK Skipping Coronation

Former President Donald Trump says President Joe Biden has "greatly insulted" the U.K. people by skipping King Charles III's coronation Saturday.

"Good Luck and Best Wishes to the wonderful new King and Queen of The United Kingdom," Trump posted to Truth Social. "You are two very Special People. May your Reign be a Long and Glorious One. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!!!"

But the praise was not effusive for Trump's political rival.

"Joe Biden should have been at the Coronation of King Charles III," Trump wrote in another Truth Social post. "Is that really so much to ask? The people of the U.K. are greatly insulted. No wonder we are losing support all over the World. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"

Well said.

It wouldn’t hurt for The President to be there. In fact, it might help relations.

That’s one of the reasons I like Free Republic. I learn something new here quite often. I wouldn’t have thought it. But by golly, you’re right about this! I looked it up.

You don't need FreeRepublic to find the excuse why Biden didn't go. You can see that same excuse everywhere in Big Media. It's their talking point.

Anyway, look up the last time a British King was coronated.

Then look up the first time a US president flew in an aircraft.

From what I’ve read, it’s some sort of odd tradition. Consider the 1953 coronation of Elizebeth II. President Eisenhower easily could have gone.

But he didn’t.

Hard to imagine DeSantis making such a bonehead play.

You mean like signing a law against free speech while in a foreign country?

Nope, nothing bonheaded about that.

Yes, one time, since presidential airplane flight, 71 years ago, and it was the Queen.

Not to be sexist, but one time in 88 years doesn't make it a customary protocol.

Trump’s words didn’t lose him any votes in 2020. (No fraud denial please.) And it’s not killing his popularity now.

“We did have a President attend: Jill.”

I find this whole thing to be a bit confusing. Do US presidents normally attend the swearing-in ceremonies of other major allied heads-of-state?

For example, does the US president attend when a new German president is sworn in? Does he attend when a new French president is sworn in? I don’t think so.

I get that the US and the UK have a special relationship. But I must reluctantly give Biden a pass here. And that alone gives me heartburn.

DeSantis is doing enough “boneheaded” things on his own to destroy his chances of ever being president.

I’m not dissing the Royal Family, just pointing out that attending their coronation is the place of the President. A Presidental cabinet minister, certainly. But not the President himself.

Well, historically, you are right. Since modern jet travel has only been a thing since QE II's coronation, it really wasn't practical to go across the ocean, and a Cabinet member or military attache would go (Ike was busy with Korea during QE II). But, I suppose it is a reasonable custom for the UK to invite and the US to decline. What makes NO sense is sending the First Lady, as if it were a charity ball or an drug awareness program. Someone with an official role should represent the U.S., as you said, a cabinet minister or even VP.

As for the fraud thing, please see my tagline.

As for Trump’s words, I must respectfully disagree. Trump said nothing that was really wrong. Nothing! But his statements were careless, nonetheless. They gave his enemies an opportunity to twist and turn what he said.

Weak-minded voters were swayed. I know more than a few of those.

It’s a damn shame, but the playing field is not level. Democrats can say and do the most outrageous things, and the media covers for them. Not so with Republicans.

So we’ve got to play smarter, and strategically. It’s not fair. But it’s also reality.

Trump was even worse with appointments. Barr, Sessions. He ran with Pence. His attorney Cohen stabbed in the back. He’s not a very at getting loyal associates.

You don't want Kamala Harris there, or she would say something like, “Britain is a kingdom, so they have to have someone, who you call a king to do kingly things. We Americans do not have a king because we have a President.” (Or something like that.) At least Dr. Jill knows when to be quiet, as does the Catsup King, John Kerry. Give them their due.

Thanks for your opinion. It does not seem to hurt him in an electoral sense today any more than in 2020 or 2016 when it was highlighted the most.
