Ukraine used newly acquired American Patriot defense systems to shoot down a Russian hypersonic missile over Kyiv this week, its Air Force said Saturday. It marked the first known time that Ukraine has been able to intercept one of Moscow’s most modern missiles — and the first time Ukraine is known to have used the Patriot defense systems.

The Kinzhal is an air launched ballistic missile, supposedly capable of obtaining speeds to Mach 10 for short periods of time. (Emphasis on short periods)

Wow. We were told hypersonics are not able to be defeated. And our old patriot system was able to shoot one down.
Once again we were lied to so we’d be scared and spend more money on defense contracts.

I am more interested in the won/loss record. How many missiles launched? How many shot down? How many hit their targets?

The faster it goes, the more devastating the damage if it hits anything like shrapnel from a AA missile.

And our old patriot system was able to shoot one down.If it worked, I am reminded of those who ridiculed Ronald Reagan for having a vision that a missile could shoot down a missile. The "experts" said it just couldn't be done, it was a starwars fantasy.

Here's the Defense Express article from a machine translator. Follow the link for a look at the photos fitting the descriptions.
"Hypersonic" X-47 "Kinjal" was successfully shot down by the Armed Forces: photos of the wreckage and an explanation of the cause of the strong explosion on the night of May 4 over KyivDefense Express May 5, 2023
Defense Express received photos of the wreckage, including a nose fair with traces of the defeat, a X-47 "Kinjal" rocket, which the Rashists tried to hit Kyiv on the night of May 4.
For the first time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine successfully intercepted a Russian "hypersonic" missile X-47 "Kinjal" around 02:40 on May 4 in the sky over Kyiv.
Kyiv's attack that night was officially announced by the Kyiv City Military Administration, noting that there were "probably ballistic-type" missiles in the attack, in addition to the Shahed kamikaze drones"
[Image:Official message of the Kyiv City Military Administration] Officially, the Kyiv City Military Administration stated that "all enemy missiles were destroyed". At the same time, Defense Express received photos of the missile wreckage from its own sources. According to the photo, the wreckage without a combat unit fell at the stadium within the capital:
[Image] The alternative in the form of X-22 has a different nasal part, with oval transitions. Also recorded in the photo, the fairing of the shot rocket differs from the ballistic missile OTRK "Iscander", which is "thicker".
[Image] In one of the photos - a nasal fairing, which is as similar as possible to that used in the X-47 "Kinjal" rocket with a complex form of sharp transitions of diameter. Also, other wreckage coincides with the wreckage of a rocket that fell in the Stavropol Territory of the Russian Federation last September and was previously identified as "Kinzhal".
[Image] The wreckage shows that he was damaged with a punch, which allows you to estimate the thickness of the material, which is necessary in order to withstand the high temperature during the acceleration to hypersonic speed. It also indicates that the interception was quite effective with the destruction of the combat unit in the air. This is due to a powerful explosion heard by the Kyiv on the night of May 4.
Also note that the first photo of the wreckage became public in the afternoon of May 4. And the availability of means in Ukraine to combat ballistic targets on duty - officially announced by the Air Force of the Armed Forces in late April. Given that the Rashists accompany the launches of their missiles, this is definitely not news to the enemy.
[Image] In relation to the message that the ballistic target was destroyed, the fact is that "Kinjal" is hypersonic only in the fantasies of the Rashists. Because although it accelerates to hypersonic speeds due to the accelerator, it cannot maintain such speed constantly. Already on the terminal site, ie during the attack, it enters the target on a ballistic trajectory and has a high but far from hypersonic speed.
And Ukraine is already officially received means that can fight ballistic goals - Patriot, and obviously, used them successfully. And in case the information received from Defense Express finds official confirmation, then exactly 4 grasses will be the day when the next myth of the Rashists, about "analogonets" will be destroyed.
[Youtube video] ured astronomical funds on the development of such "hypersonic" weapons as "Kinjal" and "Zircon" and stated that it could overcome not only the available means of missile defense, but also promising. At the same time, in reality, it is intercepted by the Patriot PAC-3 developed in the 90's.
Given the reaction, we should only note that information on the ability of the Armed Forces to destroy ballistic missiles - official, information on the destruction of missiles that were aimed at Kyiv - official. From the Defense Express - only the identification of the wreckage itself, the first photos with which became public the day before the publication of the material.
Updated May 6: The Air Force of Ukraine confirmed - "hypersonic" X-47 "Kinjal" knocked down. Й таким чином 4 травня стало днем знищення одного з найголовніших міфів рашистів щодо їх так званого "гіперзвукового озброєння".

The Patriot’s sent to the Ukraine are PAC1 and PAC2 (heavily skewed towards the former IIRC); upgraded PAC3 is what may be able to intercept a Khinzal in terminal phase. This claim is incredibly suspect. Pac3 Patriots operated by veteran American contractors in the Yemen War have performed quite poorly against Iranian ballistic missiles- highly doubtful that earlier iterations of the hardware run by hastily trained Ukrainians would do better. As with most claims from the Western side of the Ukraine conflict, seems to be more for public consumption by the drooling Slave Ukraine simulacra. Gotta keep that war grift going for as long as possible to salvage the Biden usurpation.

Looking at photos of building after building destroyed in Ukraine, enough missiles obviously got through.

The PAC-3 antimissile warhead is hit to kill, not fragmentation. Though you are correct. A one-inch ball bearing hitting a target warhead at mach 5 would get its destruction energy from the target. The older Patriot missile designed to shoot down airbreathers doesn’t use fragmentation either, it throws a steel web, a la spiderman, at the target aircraft to fly into.

Then today,... Images and Telegram announcement are behind the link.
The Air Force of Ukraine confirmed - "hypersonic" X-47 "Kinjal" was shot down, the main myth of the Russian Federation about analogovnet was destroyedDefense Express May 6, 2023
May 4 was the day of the destruction of one of the most important myths of the Rashists regarding their so-called "hypersonic weapons" The Armed Forces Command officially announced the successful interception of the X-47 "Kinjal" air base missile, which can develop hypersonic speed.
This was officially announced by the Commander of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces Mykola Oleshchuk. It will be recalled that the destruction of "Kinzhal" took place around 02:40 on May 4 in the sky over Kyiv
Preliminary information on the destruction of a likely ballistic target originally reported by the Kyiv City Military Administration, later in the photo Defense Express identified the wreckage and suggested them, what is it about intercepting the X-47 "Kinjal".
It is now May 4, the day of the destruction of one of the most important myths of the Rashists regarding their so-called "hypersonic weapons". Because in its development, which lasted at least since the 2010s and was officially recognized only in 2018. And personally the leader of the Rashists Putin then said about "Kinjal" the following that this rocket "allows you to guarantee to overcome all existing and, I think, promising air defense and missile defense systems, delivering to the target for a range of up to 2 thousand km nuclear and conventional warheads".
Due to this, "Kinzhal" entered the "iconostasis" of the Russian "wunderwaffe", huge resources and time were spent on its development, specially modernized media of MiG-31K. But, as the Armed Forces have shown, its destruction is possible by long-standing means, obviously in the form of Patriot PAC 3, not that promising.
But most importantly, apart from Kingala, the Russian Federation has spent no less resources on creating another "hypersonic analog" - the Tsirkon rocket of the sea and the ground-based plans. Which is similar in principle to the "Kinjalu" - acceleration to hypersonic speeds by the accelerator, after which the speed of the rocket decreases, which does not make it a full hypersonic rocket.

The Patriot systems in Ukraine are PAC3. Ukrainian soldiers were trained in the United States to operate and maintain them. Contrary to enemy propaganda here and abroad, PAC3 systems have worked well.

If PAC3, I stand corrected. That being said, the claim remains dubious. Saudi Arabia operated US manned PAC3 throughout the Yemen War where they performed poorly by most accounts (these were not indigens manning them). Hastily trained Ukrainians are not on par with veteran US military contractors. Moreover, the Ukrainians (they learned from their mentors and sponsors in the USA globohomo regime) are inveterate liars. What was it a day or two ago, where they claimed victory over a drone in Kyiv, before it was laughably exposed as one of their own?

Hopefully this is all true for the Ukrainians. That this Russian hypersonic missile got shot down. My understanding is that these hypersonic missiles are lightweight and do not carry a large payload. That they do most of their destruction via their very high speed impacts.

Wow. We were told hypersonics are not able to be defeated. And our old patriot system was able to shoot one down. The only country claiming the Kinzhal was "invincible" is Russia. The current Patriot PAC-3 is specifically designed to shoot down missiles like the Kinzhal/Iskander. The "hypersonic" missile threats that are more problematic are SCRAMjet cruise missiles and Hypersonic Glide Vehicles, but they are also not "invincible".
