Steve Bannon Says Ron DeSantis' World Tour Was 'Humiliating' for Him

Steve Bannon has described Ron DeSantis' recent world tour, which saw the Florida governor visit stanch U.S. allies Israel, Japan, South Korea and Britain, as "humiliating."

Trump's former White House chief strategist made the comment during a monologue on his War Room podcast, which was broadcast on right-wing network Real America's Voice.

DeSantis is widely believed to be weighing up a possible 2024 presidential bid, with polling indicating he is the second most popular choice with Republican voters, after Donald Trump. It is common for perspective presidential candidates to embark on trips abroad, in a bid to garnish their foreign policy credentials.

Addressing DeSantis, Bannon commented: "They sent you on what was a humiliating tour of the world. South Korea, Japan, Israel. Then this humiliation in England where the prime minister would not meet with you. And you had this meeting with the top people in the financial community and the top corporations in London, what's called the City of London, it was humiliating.

"The political story was a humiliation to you. You're just not ready for the scale you need to be ready for."

During his trip to the U.K., DeSantis didn't meet with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, though he was greeted by Foreign Secretary James Cleverly.

DeSantis also met with leading figures in the British business community, though according to Politico, several were damning of the Florida Republican's performance, describing him as "low wattage" and "horrendous," with one commenting: "There wasn't any stardust."

There is an old saying that goes something like: if you take a shot at the king, you better not miss.

Well Ron, it seems to me like you missed. So, like it was said in my old hood (and probably still is): “duck (explitive deleted)”.

DeSantis can string together such a coalition that would enable him to claw back enough swing states to prevail. Trump cannot. At best, Trump would carry 45% of the vote in a general election.

RDS has a strong success record, tact, diplomacy, and an ability to win the respect and cooperation of allied world leaders.

Trump, on the other hand, knows threats, insults, innuendo and childish name-calling. How to lose friends and distance people.

Bannon is the personification of the word dissolute.

Given that Biden has an admitted history of using threats to pressure foreign governments to do his bidding (example: bragging about threatening to cut off $1B in aid to Ukraine if it didn’t fire the prosecutor investigating his son) I have to wonder if the reuse of senior government officials to meet with a sitting US governor might have been in part influenced by the administration warning them to brush off GOP candidates.

It was humiliating according to who, the press? According to the same press every overseas visit by President Trump was a disaster.

I have wondered why Trump has been on this ongoing one-sided campaign against DeSantis.

You’re still wondering? Isn’t it clear by now? It’s because DeSantis is going to run. He was always going to run. If party unity is important, why should DeSantis challenge a candidate he supposedly agrees with? If you’re looking for the source of party division, you’re looking in the wrong place. It’s not Trump who threatens to divide the Republican party. It’s DeSantis.

“The Trump cult is still very very scared of Ron DeSantis.”

You’re funny, I’ll give you that. But there’s nothing to be afraid of from Ron, an uninspiring and mediocre politician - with the emphasis on “politician”. You and your fellow DeSantis cheerleaders are vicariously suffering from delusions of grandeur.

“We are told that Trump already has the nomination locked up by huge poll leads, so why not instead try to unify the Republican Party?”

Did you forget your /sarc tag? How is Trump supposed to unify the party without addressing those who are challenging him for the nomination? What do you call DeSantis throwing his hat into the ring? Is HE trying to unify the party? Or are you still in denial that DeSantis is running?

“Something doesn’t add up.”

Very true. It’s your logic.
